SMART@CAR helps companies bring power to the marketplace

Rich Housh knew he had a good idea, one that could be lucrative for years to come as the world moves away from automobiles powered by internal combustion engines. What he didn’t have was a way to develop it, a place to test it or a means to improve it. So Housh, president and CEO of Juice Technologies, set up his company’s research and development offices at Ohio State’s Center for Automotive Research as a member of the SMART@CAR consortium. Fiscal Year 2010 compensation guidelines established

The FY 2010 annual merit compensation process is currently being drafted and includes a merit pool target of 2.5 percent across the university, which may vary slightly by college or unit based on funding and market position. Ohio State continues an aggressive pursuit of efficiencies and cost savings within the university and, at the same time, strives to keep faculty and staff salaries competitive with our benchmarks.

Out-of-pocket increased costs for faculty and staff for next year will be minimized due to recent successful cost reduction initiatives of nearly $100 million. Health care premiums and RPAC fees will not increase for 2010, and parking fees will increase less than 5 percent. In light of the difficult economy facing the state and its impact on OSU students, the president, provost and members of the Senior Management Council will voluntarily forego any salary increase or earned bonus for the year. These funds will be redirected to increased scholarship support for students.

"Visible Speech" exhibit in Hagerty Hall

If it can be argued that every human society in the world has a spoken language, why then are writing systems considered uncommon? If a writing system is not a given, where did writing come from and how and when did it develop? An exhibit on writing systems addressing these questions and more is currently open in the Global Gallery and may be viewed daily throughout spring quarter in the lobby area of Hagerty Hall and the Crane Café.
