Gee tours OARDC industry partnerships, launches OSU Extension tree program

OSU President Gordon Gee visited the Wooster campus of OARDC this week to learn about various economic development initiatives and meet with community and industry officials. Gee helped launch OSU Extension’s “Why Trees Matter: Next STEP” Signature Program -- a research and outreach initiative that uses science and information technology to show the benefits of community trees and calculate the dollar value of their environmental functions. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR DENTAL RESEARCH STUDY. If you have difficulty chewing because of missing teeth, you may be eligible to join a dental implant research study at the College of Dentistry. Study participants must be non-smokers in good health who are also available for five years of data collection. Participants receive significantly reduced surgical fees and five years of free annual dental maintenance and cleaning. Climate, Water, & Carbon Program Seed Grant opportunity

The Climate, Water, & Carbon Program is issuing its annual call for seed grants, open to all OSU faculty and researchers with PI status. This year's proposals are expected to be funded at about $50,000 and are due Friday (5/1). For details, visit the CWC projects web page or contact Doug Alsdorf.

Register now for Multiple Perspectives conference

The Multiple Perspectives on Access, Inclusion, and Disability Change, Challenge, & Collaboration conference will be held Tuesday (4/28)-Wednesday (4/29) on the Ohio State campus. The theme is “Change, Challenge & Collaboration” and 30 concurrent sessions are planned. The program recognizes contemporary problems and explores their roots while emphasizing the opportunities for innovation and collaboration that reside in our current challenges. Read more >

April leadership conference registration now open

Registration is now open for the Leadership for Tomorrow: Exploring New Approaches conference to be held Tuesday (4/28)-Thursday (4/30) in Columbus. Register online. Gain a new perspective on current leadership research and thought processes, re-examine your leadership toolbox, and think about your own approach to leadership. A $150 discount is provided on the total registration for organizations that send four or more participants to the conference (all four must register at once via the same payment).

IRB forms help session March 18

Investigators, graduate students and research staff are encouraged to attend a help session on IRB applications from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday (3/18) in 113 Research Foundation. Office of Responsible Research Practices staff will provide an overview of the Initial Review of Human Subjects Research application and will answer questions regarding other IRB forms. This session is targeted to researchers who submit materials to the Behavioral and Social Sciences IRB, but is open to all human subjects researchers. Registration requested. The Digital Union continues its series of hands-on technology tutorials for faculty, staff and students this spring. Learn about the newest tech tools for teaching, learning and research at workshops on Second Life, Cloud Computing, Streaming Media, Photoshop CS4 and more. The free weekly workshops show what tools are available, how they work, and ways to apply them in the academic environment. Registration required. Register online.

OSU Community Orchestra, First Year String Orchestra seeking participants

Ohio State's Community Orchestra and First Year String Orchestra are seeking students, faculty, staff, and community members to participate in ensembles. All instruments are welcome, but brass, oboe, bassoon, viola, and bass players are especially in demand. No audition is required, but some prior experience preferred. Weekly rehearsals. Try Rec Sports for free during finals week

Recreational Sports is welcoming any OSU affiliate to take advantage of its free week Monday (3/16)-Sunday (3/22). Recreational facilities are free with valid university ID. Family members are welcome at the RPAC or ARC during observed Family Hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Stop by the RPAC Welcome Center or the ARC front desk with ID and register. March 15 deadline to renew child care waitlist applications

Families who have submitted waitlist applications to the OSU Child Care Program are required to renew their application annually to remain on the waitlist. To renew, click here and login using your OSU username and password. Review current information, make updates and add children as needed.
