Raising tobacco sales age, improving health Sponsor

In a new white paper released Tuesday (2/3), Ohio State public health experts detail how raising the minimum tobacco sales age to 21 would be effective in improving health and note the economic consequences to retailers would be minimal. Micah Berman, assistant professor of Public Health and Law at Ohio State, co-authored the paper with Rob Crane, clinical associate professor of Family Medicine, and Natalie Hemmerich, an attorney and postdoctoral fellow in Public Health.

JPMorgan Chase CEO engages with studentsSponsor

Today: Manga at a Crossroads

Manga at a Crossroads: Classic Manga features Maureen Donovan (Ohio State), Thomas LaMarre (McGill University), Natsu Onoda Power (Georgetown University), and Gennifer Weisenfeld (Duke University), looking at classic materials – Shonen Kurabu in the 1930s and Osamu Tezuka. The symposium, today (3/6) at 165 Thompson Library from noon-4:15 p.m., will be followed by a 4:30 p.m. reception honoring professor Donovan, who is retiring.

Psych Lecture Series on Pollyanna's Revenge

Ohio State Newark’s psychology department is hosting a lecture on Monday (3/9) at 4 p.m. at 53 Hopewell Hall. Richard Walker, associate professor at Winston Salem State University and Ohio State Newark alumnus, will speak about the subject of his new book, Pollyanna's Revenge: How Memory AND Emotion Foster Happiness. The book centers around the fading affect bias which purports that negative memories fade more quickly than positive memories.

David Williams, University of Rochester, will deliver the first Richard M. Hill lecture in 33 Fry Hall at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (3/10). Williams is the dean for research in Arts, Science and Engineering, William G. Allyn Professor of Medical Optics and director of the Center for Visual Science. He will speak about “Functional Imaging of Single Cells in the Living Eye.”
