Investiture: Six presidential welcomesSponsor

Master's in nursing makes top 25 in U.S. News rankings

The College of Nursing master’s program jumped 10 spots to land in the top 25 in rankings recently released by U.S. News and World Report. The college moved to 22nd in the rankings, putting it in the top five percent of nursing programs in the country. Rankings were based on quality assessment by deans and graduate studies deans at nursing schools, student selectivity and achievement, faculty resources, and research activity. Previous rankings were based solely on peer assessment.

Drake is Rock and Roll Hall of Fame trusteeSponsor

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland has named Ohio State President Michael V. Drake to its Board of Trustees. Drake is one of three new trustees to join the board. Drake is no stranger to contemporary music. One of his first jobs was at Tower Records in Sacramento.

Grants/funding

Travel grants for the scholarship of engagement available

Small grants are offered to offset the cost of travel or expenses related to presenting at conferences or participating in workshops associated with advancing the scholarship of engagement across teaching and research activities. Funding is offered for meetings that include the Engagement Scholarship Consortium Conference, the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Civic Engagement, and the IUPUI Service-Learning Research Institute. Apply by Friday (3/20).

Free artist's talk with Beryl Korot

Tuesday (3/24) at 4:30 p.m., hear from multimedia artist Beryl Korot, whose pioneering Text and Commentary (1976–77) is featured in the Wexner Center exhibition “Fiber: Sculpture 1960-present.” In this early multichannel work – one of the first to integrate video art into an installation setting – she presents weaving, writing, and video-making as parallel activities.

Film screening of 'Escape Fire'

Nurses of Character and the College of Nursing Student Ambassadors are hosting a one-time screening of the film “Escape Fire” on Wednesday (4/1) from 1-3 p.m. in the Ohio Union, Great Hall 1. The documentary explores the profit-driven American healthcare system and its focus on quick fixes rather than health education and disease prevention.

Hammond lecture set for April 8Sponsor

Lauren Hammond, Denison University, will present “Diaspora Connections: African American Engagement with U.S.-Dominican Republic Relations,” on Wednesday (4/8) from 4-5:30 p.m. in 232 Cockins Hall. Hammond is a historian of the African Diaspora in Latin America and the U.S., whose current research focuses on the Dominican Republic.

Psychiatric and neurological perspectives course

Join Ohio State’s Neurological Institute for a Brain Week CME Event on Saturday (3/31) from 10 a.m.-noon at COSI, 333 W. Broad St. This case-study based course will examine the overlap of depression and dementia and explore referral guidelines for neurology or psychology follow up. Ohio State psychiatrist Kate Brownlowe and neurologist Brendan Kelly will present. Earn credits while your family enjoys free admission to COSI. The course is free but registration is required.
