Headline newsOHIO STATE TRUSTEES TO MEET APRIL 5, 6The university’s Board of Trustees and its committees will meet on Thursday (4/5) and Friday (4/6) at the Longaberger Alumni House. The schedule includes a meeting Thursday of the full board from 2-5 p.m., where trustees will recess into executive session. On Friday, the schedule includes meetings of the Agricultural Affairs and Medical Center Affairs Committees at 8 a.m., the Investments Committee at 9 a.m., and the Fiscal and the Academic and Student Affairs committees at 9:30 a.m. The formal board meeting will begin at 10:45 a.m. in the Sanders Grand Lounge. RECEPTION KICKS OFF DISABILITY AWARENESS MONTHThe Office for Disability Services is kicking off Disability Awareness Month at Ohio State with an opening reception of an exhibit focusing on art by artists who have disabilities, from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday (4/4) on the second floor of Bricker Hall. FTAD HOSTS U.S. SYSTEM OF HIGHER EDUCATION TODAYFTAD is offering the latest College Teaching Series session, “The U.S. System of Higher Education” from 3:30-5 p.m. today (4/3) in 300 Younkin Success Center. Designed for TAs unfamiliar with U.S. higher education, the session will bring forth issues about cross-cultural differences between the U.S. and other countries in structures, values, communication patterns, and teacher-student interaction. Sessions are designed primarily for novice TAs and faculty, however all instructors are invited to attend and will find useful information about improving teaching. Contact: ftad@osu.edu TUBERCULOSIS, VULNERABLE POPULATIONS DISCUSSION APRIL 4The College of Public Health’s Center for Public Health Preparedness is hosting a public health dialogue on Tuberculosis and Vulnerable Populations, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesday (4/4) at the College’s Office of Workforce Development, 1212 Kinnear Road, Room 310. The discussion will focus on TB in Franklin County and Ohio and will feature guests Shu-Hua Wang, medical director of the Ben Franklin TB Control Program and assistant professor of clinical medicine at OSU; and Naomi Tucker, clinic supervisor of the Ben Franklin TB Control Program. Klassen Research Day - an annual symposium highlighting the latest cardiothoracic research - from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday (4/6) in the Biomedical Research Tower Auditorium. Guest speaker and Klassen Lecturer Peter Libby of Harvard Medical School, an international pioneer in inflammation of vascular diseases, will present along with senior and junior faculty members and researchers during the free event. SPEAKER TO RECOUNT STORIES OF IRAQI WOMENNadje Al-Ali, senior lecturer in social anthropology at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter in Britain, will deliver “Iraqi Women Between Dictatorships, Wars, Sanctions and Occupation” at noon on Monday (4/9) at the Mershon Center for International Security Studies, 1501 Neil Ave. Al-Ali is a founding member of Act Together: Women’s Action on Iraq, and recently published “Iraqi Women: Untold Stories from 1948 to the Present.” The lecture is co-sponsored by OSU Women in Development. Read More > ORRP ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENT RESEARCHERSStaff from the Office of Responsible Research Practices will offer office hours to help both graduate and undergraduate student researchers who are preparing Behavioral and Social Sciences Institutional Review Board submissions and exemption requests. These office hours are intended to help students and their advisors navigate IRB forms, policies and review procedures. They will be held in 150 Page Hall, in space provided by the Undergraduate Research Office. No appointment is necessary. Dates and times are available online. will take place from 1-2 p.m. Thursday (4/12) in Room 266A, 660 Ackerman
Road. All are welcome to attend. The next 10-week session begins Thursday
(4/19). Meetings are every Thursday at 1 p.m. The cost is $100 for
10 sessions; new members also pay a one-time $10 enrollment fee. Weight
Watchers at Work requires payment for all meetings in advance at the
first meeting. For those enrolled in the OSU Health Plan, 50 percent
