Headline newsSHORE WINS ACS AWARD IN INORGANIC CHEMISTRYSheldon Shore, Distinguished Professor of Mathematical and Physical Sciences and Kimberly Professor of Chemistry at Ohio State, received the American Chemical Society Award in Inorganic Chemistry last week at the national meeting of the society in Chicago, capping a 50-year career full of technological developments. The award recognizes chemists who have accomplished outstanding research in the preparation, properties, reactions or structure of inorganic substances. Over the years, he's made a catalyst that creates an ingredient for nylon, and devised a technique for implanting elemental boron in computer chips. Read More >
THOMPSON LIBRARY RENOVATION IS LIBRARY JOURNAL COVER STORYThe renovation of the William Oxley Thompson Memorial Library is the cover story in the current issue of “Library Journal,” the profession’s trade publication. The story highlights the project and the changes the OSU Libraries have in place during the project. Demolition of the 1970s addition is currently underway. Read the article online. PORTION OF BIKE PATH CLOSED FOR SAFETYThe bike path between the Drake Union and King Avenue will be closed for the rest of spring quarter because of construction work being done on the OSU substation. Pedestrians and bicyclists are urged to recognize posted signage because the area is under heavy construction and is considered an extreme safety hazard. View a map of the closed area and the suggested alternative route online. NCI SURGERY CHIEF TO GIVE ANNUAL BLOCK CANCER LECTURESteven Rosenberg, chief of surgery at the National Cancer Institute,
will receive the 15th annual Herbert and Maxine Block Memorial Lectureship
Award for Achievement in Cancer when he visits the OSU Medical Center‘s
James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute to deliver the
Block Lecture in April. Rosenberg will deliver “Development of
Human Cancer Immunotherapy” at 8 a.m. Thursday (4/12) in 518
James. The award is funded by proceeds of the annual Herbert J. Block
Memorial Tournament, a golf outing established in 1982 that has raised
more than $3.3 million for cancer research at OSU. The lecture is free.
For reservations, contact Kathy.Froilan@osumc.edu MICROWAVE AND CIRCUITS TALK APRIL 5Ph.D. candidate Kenneth Vanhille from the University of Colorado at Boulder will present “2.5-D Miniature Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Circuits” at 11 a.m. Thursday (4/5) in 260 Dreese Laboratory. An ECE faculty candidate, Vanhille will present interesting advances and results of his work obtained while working in collaboration with Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials, and will indicate some future challenges to be solved to bring the technology to maturity. Theater Drake Performance Center. The show is a fundraiser for the
Columbus Free Clinic, a student-managed primary- and urgent-care clinic.
Nite Out will showcase 12-15 acts, ranging from Indian dances to comedic
piano solos. Advance tickets are $5 and are available from 11 a.m.-2
p.m. this week in the Meiling Hall Lobby. Tickets are $6 at the door
