Headline newsOMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS AFFECT RISK OF DEPRESSION, INFLAMMATIONA new study suggests that people whose diets contain dramatically more of one kind of polyunsaturated fatty acid than another may be at greater risk for both clinical depression and certain inflammatory diseases. The report, published online in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine (www.psychosomaticmedicine.org/), suggests that we need to balance out our intake of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. INAUGURAL OSU LANGUAGE NETWORK SYMPOSIUM APRIL 7The Department of Linguistics will host the first annual OSU Language
Network Spring Symposium from 8:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Saturday (4/7) at
the Drake Union. The daylong event is intended to foster new links
and strengthen already existing ones among members of the OSU community
doing research on language. Research groups from Computer Science and
Engineering; Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology; French & Italian;
Linguistics; Psychology; Spanish & Portuguese; and Speech & Hearing
will be presenting. The event is free and open to the public. To pre-register,

MARTIN TO DISCUSS SOY BREEDING, NEW USES APRIL 6Steve St. Martin, professor in the Department of Horticulture and
Crop Science and a member of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development
Center’s soybean breeding program, will present “Breeding
Soybeans to Meet New Needs,” from 11 a.m.-noon Friday (4/6) in
Columbus and by video simulcast in Wooster. St. Martin is involved
in a new partnership between Ohio State and the Battelle Memorial Institute
to develop new soy-oil products, including soy-based lubricants, plasticizers

Read More > LEADING ARTISTS AND WRITERS DISCUSS IDENTITY AND RACELeading artists and writers will gather at the Wexner Center on Tuesday (4/10) to discuss the issues of cultural conflict, identity politics and expressive freedom as part of “Race Matters, the Second Annual Director’s Dialogue on Art and Social Change.” The event is free to the public. Read More > FIRST CAMPUS MUSIC HOP SET FOR APRIL 12-15The first Campus Music Hop set for Thursday (4/12)-through Sunday (4/15) will feature a variety of live musical performances in more than a dozen locations along or near High Street in the University District. At the heart of the music hop will be Ohio State’s 30th Annual Jazz Festival. The music will include jazz in the university’s Weigel Auditorium, and the blues, hip hop and rock’n’roll at restaurants and nightspots along High Street. Many of the performances are free. An up-to-date listing of events is available online. OPTOMETRY HOSTS CHILDREN’S LEARNING FORUM APRIL 20The College of Optometry is hosting the Children's Learning Forum
at 8:30 a.m. Friday (4/20) at the Holiday Inn on the Lane. The multidisciplinary
conference was designed to be of interest to all professionals who
work with children who have learning difficulties. Presenters include
Ohio State’s Mary Hill, Emily Rodgers and Wayne Secord, and Suzanne
Wickum, associate professor at the University of Houston and Jacqueline

operation until 8:30 p.m. on Thursday (6/7) during final exam week.
The change will make exam time options consistent for the entire quarter.
Please write the time in on the ODS Exam Proctor Sheet if you need
to have your student’s exam scheduled between 5-8:30 p.m. on
that date. In the future, this time option will be printed on the Exam
