Headline newsTEN RECEIVE DISTINGUISHED TEACHING AWARD-- Nineteen Ohio State faculty have been honored this spring as recipients
of the 2007 Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching, the Distinguished
Scholar Award and the Faculty Award for Distinguished University Service.
Those receiving the awards will be recognized today-Wednesday (4/11)
in OSUToday. Receiving the Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching,
in recognition of superior teaching, are:
BURKE NAMED DIRECTOR OF OFFICE FOR DISABILITY SERVICESLois J. Burke recently was named director of the Office for Disability Services at Ohio State after serving in an interim capacity since August 2006. She previously served as assistant director of the office, which she joined in 1985 as a counselor. As director, she oversees a staff of 21, who coordinate support services and programs that enable Ohio State students with disabilities to have equal access to education and university life. The office annually serves approximately 1,700 students. Read More >
TALK TO ADDRESS PUBLIC POLICY, GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGEThe Battelle Endowment for Technology and Human Affairs is sponsoring a public lecture and question-and-answer session to address the societal implications of global climate change at 7 p.m.Thursday (4/12) at the Fawcett Center. Andy Keeler, associate professor at the John Glenn Institute for Public Service and Public Policy and an expert on the economic and political ramifications of policy shifts that may occur as our understanding of global climate change improves, will speak for approximately 45 minutes. UNIVERSITY SENATE MEETING SET, ELECTION RESULTS POSTEDUniversity Senate’s next meeting will take place at 3:30 p.m. Thursday (4/12) in 130 Drinko Hall. The agenda includes a discussion of two proposals from the Council of Academic Affairs, remarks by Faculty Council Chair Allan Silverman, reports from Associate Vice President for Facilities Operations and Development Melissa Bellini, and Council of Graduate Students Vice President David Boley. All are welcome to attend. University Senate has concluded its annual election of faculty senators/alternates, with a voter turnout that increased for the third straight year. CHANGING PROFILE OF TODAY’S GRADUATE STUDENTS APRIL 20Join faculty colleagues from 9-11 a.m. Friday (4/20) for an interactive roundtable discussion to explore the characteristics and needs of emerging graduate student populations. A panel of faculty, graduate students and staff will describe current research and data on the millennial student generation (born after 1978) and a multi-year study of non-traditional student populations at Ohio State. The session will provide general information, resources, and personal perspectives and outline current teaching methodologies and policies designed to effectively navigate the shifting contours of new student groups within the context of graduate education. 292-3535. OSU MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM CELEBRATION APRIL 11Join a celebration of the 2006-07 Men’s Basketball Season at 6 p.m. Wednesday (4/11) in Value City Arena. Admission and parking are free. Arena doors open at 5 p.m. The Buckeyes claimed the Big Ten outright regular season and tournament titles and finished as the national runners-up. Thad Matta, the 2007 Big Ten Coach of the Year, and members of the team will speak. Director of Athletics Gene Smith and Mayor Michael Coleman also will take part in the program. A commemorative autographed poster will be handed out to the first 5,000 fans in attendance. ARCHITECT ROGER SHERMAN TO LECTURE AT KNOWLTON HALLRoger Sherman of Roger Sherman Architecture and Urban Design is the next Knowlton School of Architecture Lecture Series guest at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (4/11) in 250 Knowlton Hall. His firm seeks to create designs that are able to stand the test of time by being able to adapt to changes in lifestyle, use, and/or the surrounding context, without sacrificing character - the hallmark of sustainable design thinking.
