Headline newsTHREE RECEIVE FACULTY AWARD FOR DISTINGUISHED UNIVERSITY SERVICE-- Nineteen Ohio State faculty have been honored this spring as recipients
of the 2007 Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching, the Distinguished
Scholar Award and the Faculty Award for Distinguished University Service.
Those receiving the awards are being recognized Monday (4/9)-today
(4/11) in OSUToday. Receiving the Faculty Award for Distinguished University
Service, to honor faculty who have influenced the quality of the university
through non-administrative roles, are: PULITZER PRIZE-WINNING AUTHOR TO LECTURE APRIL 30Pulitzer Prize-winning author David McCullough will offer a historical look at leadership when he speaks at 4 p.m. Monday (4/30) at the Wexner Center Film/Video Theater. The lecture is co-sponsored by the John Glenn School of Public Affairs and the Ohio Telecom Association. McCullough is a two-time winner of the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize. In December 2006 he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nations’ highest civilian award. TODAY'S POLICY FORUM TO EXPLORE WOMEN AND ATHLETICSThe John Glenn School of Public Affairs will continue its Food for Thought policy forum series from noon-1:15 p.m. today (4/11) in the Page Hall Policy Forum. The forum will build on Sarah Fields’ recently published book “Female Gladiators: Gender, Law, and Contact Sport in America.” Fields is an assistant professor in the School of Physical Activity and Education. KENNEDY TO ADDRESS REFORM OF UNITED NATIONSPaul Kennedy, Dilworth Professor of History and director of International Security Studies at Yale University, will discuss “Reforming the United Nations: Mission Impossible?” at 4 p.m. Thursday (4/12) in the Wexner Center Film/Video Theater. Kennedy was Secretariat to the International Commission on the Long-Term Future of the United Nations. After the lecture, he will sign copies of his book “The Parliament of Man: The Past, Present, and Future of the United Nations.” Read More > APRIL 12 READALOUD PROGRAM HAS ARABIC THEMEThe OSU Libraries ReadAloud program continues from 3-4 p.m. Thursday (4/12) in the Wexner Cafe featuring a reading of Arabic prose, poetry and song arranged by the Library Diversity Committee. Readers from the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Culture include Hanan Kashou, Joseph Zeidan and Rafah Asadi. The readings will be done in Arabic. The presenter is Amy Goodburn, associate dean of Arts and Sciences and associate professor of English and Women’s Studies, University of Nebraska-Lincoln. A course portfolio captures and makes visible the scholarly work of planning and teaching a course, and is an invaluable tool for documenting and reflecting on the quantity and quality of student learning. The event is part of Step It Up 2007, a nationwide citizen action to urge Congress to put America on the path toward reducing carbon emissions 80 percent by the year 2050. Speakers starting at 1 p.m. include: Tom Waite, associate professor, Department of Evolution, Ecology & Organismal Biology; Andy Keeler, associate professor of Public Policy, John Glenn School of Public Affairs; and Seppo Korpela, professor of Mechanical Engineering. Lynch is best known as the hilarious singer/songwriter/guitarist comedian on Comedy Central. COLLEGE OF MEDICINE PRESENTS VARIETY SHOW FUNDRAISERThe College of Medicine is hosting its annual variety show, Nite Out 2007, at 7:30 p.m. Friday (4/13) and Saturday (4/14) at the Thurber Theatre in the Drake Performance Center. The show is a fundraiser for the Columbus Free Clinic, a student-managed primary- and urgent-care clinic. Acts range from Indian dances to comedic piano solos.
