CRITICAL ISSUES ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE SUMMIT APRIL 21Learn about the current health care system in the United States and the implications for care providers and social justice advocates by attending the Critical Issues Access to Health Care Summit, scheduled for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday (4/21) at the Hale Black Cultural Center. Speakers include OSU professors and physicians, directors of area social service agencies that address health care inequities, and experts from the Department of Public Health. A reception from 6–8 p.m. today (4/13) is free and open to the public and will be attended by several of the artists. The reception will include a gallery discussion at 6:30 p.m. as well as refreshments. The gallery hours are 8 a.m.-8 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Saturday, and closed on Sunday. Read More > NOBEL LAUREATE TO SPEAK TO UNDERGRADUATESPhilip Sharp of MIT and the 1993 Nobel Prize winner in Medicine/Physiology, will discuss his research with students from noon-1 p.m. today (4/13) in the Kuhn Honors and Scholars House. Sharp’s research has important implications for the evolution of organisms and the causes of some hereditary diseases and cancers. The event was organized by members of the Biochemistry Club. The event will attract more than 1,400 sixth-12th-grade students, teachers and parents representing 26 counties. OSU’s involvement in the state tournament also includes judges and financial support from the colleges of Engineering; Biological Sciences; Math and Physical Sciences; Education; Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences; and the Department of Naval Military Science. Tyson, president of ExxonMobil Inter-America Inc. and an alumnus of the Fisher College of Business, will talk about managing government and business relations in Latin America at 4 p.m. Tuesday (4/17) in 375 Gerlach Hall. He will discuss the challenges and opportunities ExxonMobil faces in the Latin American region in light of changing government policies toward natural resources. HALF MARATHON TO AFFECT CAMPUS TRAFFIC SATURDAYThe Columbus Distance Classic Half Marathon set for Saturday (4/14) is expected to affect campus traffic. The race begins and ends off campus but the route runs through the OSU campus.
