Headline newsBELL, HERBERS REAPPOINTED AS DEANSProvost Barbara Snyder has recommended that College of the Arts Dean Karen Bell and College of Biological Sciences Dean Joan Herbers be reappointed for a second five-year term, effective July 1, 2007. Under the leadership of Bell and Herbers, the colleges have made significant advances and continue to make progress toward the goals of the university’s Academic Plan. The reappointments are subject to approval by the university’s Board of Trustees.
TOUSSAINT LOUVERTURE, AMERICAN ABOLITION LECTURE TODAYSusan Belasco, professor of English at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will deliver a free public lecture, “Imagining Toussaint Louverture: The Emergence of Radical Abolition in the United States,” at 4 p.m. today (4/26) in 311 Denney Hall. Sponsored by the Department of English and the Department of African American and African Studies, the lecture will focus on literary representations of the Haitian leader in the early nineteenth century and their influence on the abolition movement in the United States. The live, three-hour culinary event, hosted by nationally-known chefs Lidia Bastianich and Joanne Weir, will focus on food appreciation, fine dining and insider cooking tips and tricks. Gift certificates, cookware, cookbooks and other dining related items will be up for auction throughout the evening. Food and drinks will be provided to audience members during the taping, and the event will include a private “silent auction” prior to airtime. KARAGOZIAN IS ME LECTURE SERIES GUEST APRIL 27The Mechanical Engineering Department Distinguished Lecture Series continues Friday (4/27) as Ann Karagozian, professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, University of California at Los Angeles presents “Control of Transverse Jet Shear Layer Instabilities” at 2:30 p.m. in E 001 Scott Laboratory. Karagozian will describe experimental and theoretical studies on the actively controlled gas jet injected transversely into cross flow, also known as the transverse jet. The ECRF is the international forum for discussion of European film and European film culture, and this is the first time that the conference will be held outside of Europe. Lab, followed by a reception at 5 p.m. in the Orton Geological Museum,
160 Orton Hall. A general lecture “The Evolution of Reefs” will
be presented at 8 p.m. in 100 Mendenhall Lab. The University Faculty and Staff Assistance Program also offers free counseling by licensed professionals for stress, personal or work-related issues. The program provides training and skills development in stress management, coping with grief and loss, and a variety of Lunch and Learn programs addressing stress. Services through UFSAP are available to all OSU employees and their immediate families. Participating in a stress management program can earn points in the 2007 Faculty and Staff Incentive Program. Day from 1-4:30 p.m. Saturday (4/28) at 338 W. 10th Ave. Visit the

a tour of the facility. College representatives will conduct sessions
on admissions and financial aid at 1 and 3 p.m., and staff from admissions
and financial aid will answer questions throughout the afternoon.
Contact: shaltom@optometry.osu.edu STAFF COURSE ENROLLMENT POLICY REMINDERHuman Resources would like to remind university staff of OSU Policy 2.35, Enrollment in Credit Programs, which outlines academic credit hour limits for staff enrolled in academic coursework - a maximum of 10 academic credit hours per quarter. Requests for an exception to the limit for the SU07 quarter must be submitted by Monday (5/7). In addition, staff taking classes during regularly scheduled work hours must complete and submit the Request for Course Enrollment During Regularly Scheduled Work Hours form. The form emphasizes the importance of discussing and defining a flexible work schedule when course times conflict with regularly scheduled work hours.
