NASA ASTRONAUT TO DISCUSS FUTURE OF SPACE PROGRAM TODAY

NASA astronaut Nancy J. Currie, deputy director of engineering at Johnson Space Center, will present a lecture at 4:30 p.m. today (4/27) in 1000 McPherson Hall. A retired Army Colonel and Master Army Aviator, Currie is responsible for providing engineering design and systems for human spaceflight programs including the Space Shuttle, International Space Station and Constellation. She received a bachelor's degree, with honors, in biological science from Ohio State in 1980. The event is hosted by the Department of Mechanical Engineering and OSUFIRST Robotics. BIO SCIENCES UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM TODAY

The public is invited to attend the annual Biological Sciences Undergraduate Research Colloquium from 4-6 p.m. today (4/27) in the Drake Union Lounge. Poster presentations and judging will take place from 4-5:30 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony. Forty-five biological sciences undergraduates will present their research posters. In addition to faculty judges, three distinguished biological sciences alumni, Milan Jovanovic, P.C. Huang and Ru-chih Huang, will judge the students' work and provide feedback. AFRICAN AMERICAN HERITAGE FESTIVAL BEGINS APRIL 28

A town hall meeting hosted by television personality Jeff Johnson, events benefiting AIDS research and the annual Greek step show highlight the events planned for the 2007 African American Heritage Festival, which begins Saturday (4/28) on the Ohio State campus. The theme for the 29th annual event, “Many Roots, One Tree,” was derived from the Swahili word Mzizi, meaning roots. The festival will conclude on Saturday (5/5). Read More >

MCCULLOUGH TO DISCUSS LEADERSHIP AND HISTORY APRIL 30

Pulitzer Prize-winning author David McCullough will offer a historical look at leadership in a lecture at 4 p.m. Monday (4/30) at the Wexner Center. The lecture, “Leadership and the History You Don’t Know,” is co-sponsored by the John Glenn School of Public Affairs and the Ohio Telecom Association. SPRING FORUM ON CLIMATE CHANGE CONTINUES MAY 3

The second event in the Byrd Polar Research Center’s Spring Forum on Climate Change will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday (5/3) at the Fawcett Center. Cindy Parker, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, will present her assessment of the implications of climate change on public health, followed by a question and answer session led by Parker and representatives from the Columbus Department of Health and other local or regional agencies. MED CENTER BREAKTHROUGHS SHOWS AVAILABLE ON CABLE

Several programs from the OSU Medical Center and WBNS/10TV are available on Time Warner Local on Demand Channel 1111. Time Warner Cable subscribers can view the shows anytime until Sunday (7/1) by selecting “Breakthroughs 1, 2 or 3” from the Lifestyle/Health and Fitness menu on Channel 1111. Available programs, original air date and topic, are: “Breakthroughs in Medicine,” December 2006, robotic-assisted surgery, and artificial heart implants; “Breakthroughs in Heart Care,” February 2007, OSU's 300th heart transplant recipient and heart health information; and “Breakthroughs in Cancer,” April 2007, prevention, detection and treatment of various forms of cancer, and the importance of research.

FISHER COLLEGE 5K TO AFFECT CAMPUS TRAFFIC APRIL 29

The Fisher College of Business 5K is expected to affect campus traffic on Sunday (4/29). The race begins at 9 a.m. and loops around the OSU campus. Campus roads will close and reopen on a rolling basis; traffic will be allowed access when deemed safe for race participants. Impact to the university community is expected to be moderate. FINAL PHASE OF NINTH AVE GARAGE RENOVATION STARTS IN MAY

Work crews will be adding a protective coating to the floor of the Ninth Avenue Parking Garage from early May-August. To accommodate the work, areas will be closed in stages. No more than 200 parking spaces will be closed at a time during peak daytime hours. During May, the garage will be closed from 6 p.m.-6 a.m. Alternate parking during evening hours is available in the 11th and 12th Avenue garages, and the South and North Cannon parking garages. There will be two-way traffic on some of the ramps in the garage during the project. Read More >
