Headline newsGRADUATE PROGRAM RANKED BY U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORTAccording to the U.S. News & World Report 2009 edition of “America's Best Graduate Schools” released this week, three graduate programs at Ohio State gained significantly in rankings among American universities since last year's report. Pharmacy rose to number five after being ranked 11th in the 2008 edition, and physical therapy cracked the top 20 for the first time, with a ranking of 19th. The master of fine arts program climbed to 21st from its previous 28th position. The university also received top five rankings in vocational/ technical education, counseling/personnel services (education), dispute resolution (law), pharmacy, industrial design, American politics, social psychology, and veterinary medicine. AEP LEADER TO VISIT CAMPUS TODAY TO DISCUSS ENERGY ISSUESYoung voters are being encouraged to share their opinions and ideas on what it will take to ensure America’s energy security while protecting the environment. The Future of Energy University Listening Tour, led locally by American Electric Power CEO Michael G. Morris, is coming to Ohio State today (4/2). The 90-minute presentation and discussion will take place from 1:30-3 p.m. at the Wexner Center Film/Video Theater. Doors open at 12:45 p.m. The event is geared toward young student voters, but open to the entire OSU community. Read more > OLENTANGY RIVER WETLANDS FEATURED IN ANNUAL REPORTThe Wilma H. Schiermeier Olentangy River Wetland Research Park at Ohio State released its 2007 Annual Report to the public on Monday (3/31) that features more than 50 color photographs and research, teaching, service and development activity summaries. The report is available online or it can be mailed to you by request to mitsch.1@osu.edu. Also described are international collaborations in four countries, and college courses, formal tours and presentations that took place at the wetlands. TODAY: LATIN AMERICAN FILM SERIES FEATURES HERMANASThe Center for Latin American Studies launches its spring quarter film series with “Hermanas” (Sisters), set for 7:30 p.m. today (4/2) in 180 Hagerty Hall. The film is about a restless journalist who has traveled to Texas to distance herself from her family’s turbulent past. The film is free and has English subtitles. Read more > BERLINER TO DISCUSS STATISTICS AND CLIMATE CHANGE APRIL 3Mark Berliner, OSU professor of Statistics will present a seminar on "Statistics and Climate Change" from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday (4/3) in the 18th Avenue Building (EA, room 170). The event is part of a spring quarter series of events on the role of statistics in climate change studies organized by the program in Spatial Statistics and Environmental Sciences. The seminar is co-sponsored by OSU's Climate, Water, and Carbon Program. Read more > ECLECTIC SCHOLAR TO SPEAK ON HISTORY OF TELEPHONE APRIL 4Richard Bauman, Distinguished Professor of Folklore and Ethnomusicology, Communication & Culture, and Anthropology at Indiana University in Bloomington, will deliver "'It’s Not a Telescope, It’s a Telephone': Encounters with the Telephone on Early Commercial Sound Recordings" at 3:30 p.m. Friday (4/4) at the Mershon Center for International Security Studies. Bauman is known for his theoretical and methodological contributions to the ethnographic study of language and performance. The deadline is Friday (4/11). MFA students are also eligible to apply for funds to support their MFA project. All-session passes are available for $45. Tickets for prelims are $8, and finals tickets are $12. ANNUAL OSU JAZZ FESTIVAL TO HEAT UP CAMPUS APRIL 3-6The popular OSU Jazz Festival will take place on campus Thursday (4/3)-Sunday (4/6), and includes concerts along with college and high school jazz days. The 31st annual event spotlights the OSU Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab Ensemble, and welcomes renowned guests saxophonist Eddie Bayard and jazz organist Tony Monaco. Bayard’s quartet will be spotlighted in a concert on Saturday evening, while Monaco will perform Thursday evening. Read more > OSU CHILD CARE OFFERS SUMMER SCHOOL AGE PROGRAMSSchool age children can enjoy the support of consistent, experienced elementary school teaching staff over the summer in the OSU Summer School Age Programs. KIKS is designed for children entering first grade and Club Create is designed for children entering second grade through age 11. Creative experiences, field trips, in-house programs, reading, writing and math experiences are part of the summer curriculum. Enrollment is Wednesday (6/11)-Saturday (8/23).
