OSU RECOGNIZED FOR WEINLAND PARK COMMUNITY OUTREACH INITIATIVES

Ohio State has been selected as a regional winner of the 2008 Outreach Scholarship W.K. Kellogg Foundation Engagement Award, which recognizes exemplary outreach and engagement partnerships implemented by four-year public universities. Cited for efforts to forge unique partnerships that have helped revitalize the nearby Weinland Park neighborhood, OSU was among five universities to receive the award and is now a national finalist for the C. Peter Magrath University Community Engagement Award. Ohio State also won a regional award in 2007 for new initiatives undertaken by the university with community partners, including the Schoenbaum Family Center at Weinland Park, Metro High School and the Battelle Center for Mathematics and Science Education Policy. SEE, DRIVE NEW E-CAR AT OSU SCARLET, GRAY AND GREEN FAIR

See a car that runs on electricity and one that you can buy and drive today, though not much faster than you would in a school zone, at Ohio State’s Scarlet, Gray and Green Fair from 1-7 p.m. Tuesday (4/22) at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, 1680 Madison Ave., Wooster. The Graduate School invites graduate students, postdoctoral researchers and faculty from all disciplines to participate in an informal panel discussion and reception with Kenyon College faculty from 10 a.m.-noon Friday (4/11) in the Faculty Club Grand Lounge. Professors from representative fields in the Arts, Sciences and Humanities will discuss answers to a variety of questions that pertain to life as a faculty member at a liberal arts college compared to a large public research university. TODAY: HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, PARENTS ON CAMPUS FOR GO BUCKEYE

Today (4/4) is goBuckeye!, the last and biggest recruitment event that the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and First Year Experience hosts for high school students admitted to the Class of 2008. More than 700 students plus their parents (1,800 total guests) will spend the day on the OSU campus and in the colleges as they decide whether or not to select Ohio State as their final college choice. As you encounter these visiting students and their families, please give them a warm smile and a greeting and give them a helping hand if they appear lost.

ANNUAL LAMBERT LECTURE, BOOKSIGNING AT WEXNER APRIL 8

The annual Lambert Family Lecture at the Wexner Center will be delivered at 7 p.m. Tuesday (4/8) by preeminent scholar Robert Storr, currently the dean of the Yale University School of Art. Storr will offer insight into his career, which includes being the first American to serve as director of the Venice Biennale (in 2007). The talk is free and open to the public and will take place in the Wexner Center's Film/Video Theater. A book signing is set for 6 p.m. at the Wexner Center Store. Read more >

IN SICKNESS AND IN WEALTH PART OF PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK

Local and state public health leaders will examine health disparities from a social justice perspective during a panel discussion, “In Sickness and In Wealth” at 3 p.m. Tuesday (4/8) in 160 Meiling Hall. The event is based on a new PBS series called “Unnatural Causes” and is part of the College of Public Health’s celebration of National Public Health Week, to be recognized Monday (4/7)-Sunday (4/13). The College Teaching Series continues spring quarter with sessions on teaching issues designed primarily for novice TAs and faculty. CAYUSE424 PRACTICE LAB SET FOR APRIL 16

Register for a Cayuse424 Practice Lab, to be held from 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday (4/16) in Research Foundation (room 113 computer lab). Cayuse424 facilitates electronic submission of NIH, NSF and USDA proposals. Prior attendance at an introductory demonstration is recommended but not required. Registration is required and is available online.

The City of Columbus has partnered with the Columbus Chamber to create ColumbusInternships.com. The new Web portal helps to facilitate connections between the vast number of students attending the region’s educational institutions and businesses within the Columbus region. College enrolled students are encouraged to register at the site and review the growing number of internship opportunities being offered by some of Columbus’ most recognized and requested companies. OSU MARION FIVE NIGHTS WELCOMES MEN'S GLEE CLUB

The OSU Men's Glee Club will perform at Morrill Hall Auditorium at OSU Marion at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (4/10) as part of Ohio State's Five Nights on Campus cultural and performing arts series. Since 1875, the glee club has delighted audiences with music from a wide variety of genres. Tickets are available in advance or at the door: $10 for adults, $9 for seniors (60 and older), and $4 for students. ANNUAL MEDICAL STUDENT-ALUMNI GOLF SCRAMBLE MAY 3

The Ninth Annual Medical Student-Alumni Golf Scramble will take place Saturday (5/3) at Champions Golf Course, 3900 Westerville Road. Rain date is Saturday (5/17). Registration begins at noon; shotgun start is at 1 p.m. Registration fee of $40 for medical students and $60 for alumni, faculty and friends includes 18 holes of golf, two golf carts, and dinner.
