Headline newsOSU LAW PROFESSOR TO DIRECT MAJOR NEWS AND SOCIETY STUDYOhio State Moritz College of Law Professor Peter Shane was recently named executive director of a high-level national commission designed to determine whether the information needs of 21st century American citizens and communities are being met and make recommendations for public policy and private initiatives that will help better meet community information needs. Read more > LECTURE ON THE BYZANTINE PARTHENON APRIL 21The Columbus Chapter of the Archaeological Institute of America is presenting a lecture on the history of the Parthenon during Mediaeval times at 8 p.m. Monday (4/21) in 014 University Hall. Read more > POLYCULTURE EXPERT TO SPEAK AT SCARLET, GRAY, GREEN FAIR APRIL 22Joe Kovach, who holds joint appointments with OARDC and with OSU Extension, will present “Using Ecological Design and Biodiversity to Increase Crop Production in the Home Garden” from 3-3:30 p.m. at the university’s Wooster Campus Scarlet, Gray and Green Fair on Tuesday (4/22). The Earth Day fair is free and runs from 1-7 p.m. It will feature more than 90 exhibits on a wide variety of topics. Admission is free. Edna Aden Ismail, founder of Edna Aden Maternity and Training Hospital Hargeisa, Somalil will present the lecture. Ismail is the former Foreign Minister and Minister of Family Welfare and Social Development of the Republic of Somaliland and was also a representative of the World Health Organization in Djibouti. TELR ACCEPTING GRANT APPLICATIONS; INFO SESSION APRIL 23TELR is accepting applications through Thursday (5/1) for a new initiative to promote eLearning experimentation at Ohio State. The Expertise Grant program enables faculty to collaborate with TELR eLearning consultants to develop and test their ideas for teaching and learning with technology. Faculty can request from 20 to 100 hours of TELR staff support, as well as up to $10,000 in funding, to support instructional innovation. Read more > OSU MANSFIELD'S 2008 FREEDOM AND SOCIAL JUSTICE SPEAKERStanford University historian Clayborne Carson will deliver "Martin Luther King, Jr.: His Inspiring Life, Lessons, and Legacy" at 7 p.m. Tuesday (4/22) in downtown Mansfield's Renaissance Theatre. In 1985, at the invitation of Coretta Scott King, Carson established the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute, housed at Stanford University. Carson will address the Civil Rights Movement, as well as the historic and academic perspectives on Martin Luther King's papers. Admission is free.
