Headline newsNASA LEADER TO DELIVER LECTURE ON CLIMATE CHANGE MAY 1James Hansen, director of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York, will discuss "Climate Tipping Points: The Threat to the Planet" in the 66th Annual Bownocker Lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday (5/1) at the Fawcett Center. The event is free and open to the public. Kentula, noted wetland ecologist with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Corvallis, Oregon will summarize her career of research on wetland management, classification and restoration at the Heffner Wetland Building at the Wilma H. Schiermeier Olentangy River Wetland Research Park at 3:30 p.m. Friday (5/2). The “Moonlight on the Marsh” distinguished lecture is co-sponsored by the Olentangy River Wetland Park, the Lenora and Jerry Pausch Foundation, and the Environmental Science Graduate Program. As part of the Animal Sciences curriculum students are required to complete at least one internship and do a presentation on where they interned, what their responsibilities were, what they learned and how this relates to their overall career goals. Clark's multimedia discussion will explore how people make sense of the religious, the vaguely religious, the sci-fi and the folkloric references in contemporary television, looking for clues as to the role television plays in our politically troubled world today. Contact: van-kley.2@osu.edu LATIN AMERICAN FILM SERIES FEATURES SWIMMER'S CHALLENGESThe Center for Latin American Studies film series continues with “Agua” at 7:30 p.m. today (4/30) in 180 Hagerty Hall. A former swimming champion has been wrongly accused of doping in the Santa Fe-Coronda Marathon, a 57 kilometer river swim. After abandoning his career and dreams, he returns to Santa Fe where the marathon will be held again to try and regain his title and clear his name. The film is free and has English subtitles. WEXNER CENTER HOSTS GENWEX EVENT MAY 1On Thursday (5/1) the popular GenWex series for young patrons continues with GenWex: Reel Politics, an evening of politically-minded conversation with two of Columbus' leading young political figures: Mike Brown, press secretary for Mayor Michael Coleman and Jim Coleman from the environmental group Ohio's Tomorrow. A screening of Sidney Lumet's Network will follow their remarks. The conversation is free, while the screening is ticketed and costs $7 general public and $5 Wexner Center members, students, and senior citizens. Blyden (1832-1912)" from noon-1 p.m. Friday (5/2) in 122 Oxley Hall. Blyden, the Liberian and former U.S. citizen from the American Virgin Islands, is the undisputed pioneer of African nationalism. The shows, at the Riffe Center's Capitol Theatre, feature the work of four internationally acclaimed choreographers, three of whom were recent guest artists at Ohio State - Tania Isaac, Amy Raymond, Ming-Lung Yang and Anna Sokolow.
