The media-savvy Builders Association, which mesmerized audiences at the Wexner Center with ALLADEEN and SUPER VISION, brings its slick new show CONTINUOUS CITY here April 16–18. Through the experiences of a separated father and daughter staying in touch through technology, CONTINUOUS CITY looks at the pros and cons of how our "networked selves" are stretched around the world. The Wexner Center is a co-commissioner of CONTINUOUS CITY, and sequences filmed in Columbus will be integrated into the presentation. Read more >

CFAES International Office tackling tough issues

Since 1955, the Office of International Programs in Agriculture within the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, recently honored as International Organization of the Year by the Columbus Council on World Affairs, has been addressing food security and environment management challenges around the world. Today, its efforts are even more significant as developing countries work to stabilize food crises and as climate change reshapes agriculture and the environment. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR DENTAL RESEARCH STUDY. If you have difficulty chewing because of missing teeth, you may be eligible to join a dental implant research study at the College of Dentistry. Study participants must be non-smokers in good health who are also available for five years of data collection. Participants receive significantly reduced surgical fees and five years of free annual dental maintenance and cleaning. Mansoor named finalist for 2009 Ohioana Book Awards

Peter Mansoor, Gen. Raymond E. Mason Jr. Chair in Military History, has been named a finalist for the 2009 Ohioana Book Awards for Baghdad at Sunrise: A Brigade Commander’s War in Iraq (Yale University Press, 2008). Mansoor is former executive officer for Gen. David Petraeus in Iraq, and the book recalls his 2003-04 command of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, in Baghdad. GASTROESOPHAGEAL REFLUX DISEASE STUDY. The Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery is enrolling participants in a research study to test an investigational device to prevent gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). You may be eligible if you are 18-75 years of age, you need to take medication daily to control GERD, you have not had any surgery to treat GERD, and you do not have Barrett’s esophagus. OSU Webmail login changes look

On Monday (4/6), from 12:01-3 a.m., the login page for OSU Webmail will change to reflect the new option for student e-mail called Buckeye Mail. There is no planned interruption of e-mail service during this time. The OSU Webmail login page will include instructions and will direct students to the Buckeye Mail login and faculty and staff to the traditional OSU Webmail site. Information on eligibility, rollout schedule, features, and instructions are available online.

FACULTY CLUB SPONSORS CHARITY ART AUCTION. Approximately 100 artworks and university collectibles will be offered at the Faculty Club's fifth annual charity art auction on Friday (4/3). Proceeds support the Faculty Club building endowment. Preview and silent auction begin at 6 p.m.; live auction at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Today: Bridge expert to present ABCDs of Bridge Building

A civil engineer with national and international experience as a consultant on major bridge projects will address “The ABCDs of Bridge Building: Affordable, Beautiful, Constructable and Durable,” from 3:30-4:30 p.m. today (4/3) at 410 Hitchcock Hall. John Breen, the Nasser I. Al Rashid Chair in Civil Engineering at the University of Texas, Austin, will discuss the interrelation of aesthetics with overall bridge design, construction and maintenance. Harvard scholar to discuss origins of Koguryo April 6

The Korean Studies Initiative is hosting Mark E. Byington, founder and director of the Early Korea Project at the Korea Institute at Harvard University, from 4-5:30 p.m. Monday (4/6) in 180 Hagerty Hall. The presentation, “A View on the Origins of the Koguryo State,” will offer a different perspective on the origins of Koguryo, a dynasty that existed in what is Korea and parts of modern-day northeastern China from 37 BC-668 AD, that focuses on development rather than local migration. Would you like to tell the story of your teaching, research or outreach through a video or audio project? OSU's Digital Storytelling team invites you to apply for an intensive, hands-on Digital Storytelling workshop to be held Tuesday (6/16)-Thursday (6/18). Project ideas related to teaching, research or outreach will be given preference. Application deadline is Monday (5/4). Read more >

Conference on the transfer student experience April 22

The office of Undergraduate Admissions and First Year Experience invites faculty and staff to attend a half-day conference on the transfer student experience on Wednesday (4/22) at the Fawcett Center. Conference sessions will highlight current university efforts to support transfer students and will foster collaborative efforts to better serve the transfer student population. IRB process information session April 9

Students and other research staff are encouraged to attend an information session on the IRB approval and exemption processes from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday (4/9) in 020 Page Hall. The session will include information about the types of studies that require IRB approval or can qualify for exemption, details about procedures and timelines for seeking approvals, and an opportunity to ask questions about specific projects. The session is co-sponsored by the Graduate School and the Office of Responsible Research Practices. Register online.

Apply now for Women in Engineering's OSU summer camp

Applications are currently available for the 2009 CheME & YOU @ OSU summer camp, hosted by the OSU Women in Engineering program and made possible through a 2009 Camille and Henry Dreyfus Special Grant in the Chemical Sciences. The camp focuses on the field of chemical engineering and will run Sunday (8/16)-Friday (8/21). Any female student who is entering grade 9 in the fall of 2009 is eligible to. Chadwick Arboretum to host free permaculture event April 11

Learn about the ecological design principles that benefit people and their environment from experts Deb Knapke and Josh Beniston during a free OSU event on the basics of permaculture. Master Gardener classes set for April 18, 25

The Master Gardeners of Franklin County, OSU Extension, are sponsoring the following April gardening classes in 116 Howlett Hall: Vegetable Gardening, from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday (4/18) and Container Gardening, from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday (4/25).
