Dentistry professor recognized by American Association of Endodontics

 Dentistry professor and researcher Al Reader is the 2009 recipient of the American Association of Endodontics Louis I. Grossman Award, which recognizes authors whose research publications have made an extraordinary contribution to the field of endodontics. Pain prevention research by Reader has been featured in national publications that include the Journal of Endodontics, Journal of the American Dental Association and a recent AAE article titled, “Taking the Pain Out of Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics.” Read more >

Ohio State launches search for University Libraries director

Ohio State has initiated a search to fill the position of director of University Libraries. The search will be national, though applications from qualified internal candidates are encouraged. The search committee is chaired by John W. Roberts, interim dean of arts and humanities. Its members are Constance Britton, OARDC librarian; John Brooke, Humanities Distinguished Professor of History; Peter Dietz, undergraduate student representative; Gideon Fraenkel, Newman Professor of Chemistry; Catherine Lucey, vice dean for education and associate vice president for health sciences education; Nancy O’Hanlon, teaching and learning coordinator, University Libraries; W. Michael Sherman, vice provost for academic administration; Kathleen Starkoff, Chief Information Officer; Leslie Tannenbaum, associate professor of English; and Julia Young, graduate student representative. ODS celebrates 35 years during Disability Awareness Month

April is Disability Awareness Month at Ohio State as well as the Office of Disability Services' 35th anniversary. Events include an art exhibit that runs through Thursday (4/30), a storytelling workshop, ice cream social, the movie Through Deaf Eyes and an Assistive Technology Open House. The keynote event for the month is the annual recognition reception. Read more >

Operation Buckeye Pride flag ceremony April 16

 Even in Iraq, Ohio State graduates can find fellow alums by calling, “O-H!” Earlier this year at Joint Base Balad, Central Iraq, Staff Sgt. Brandon Boos (B.A., ’07) learned that his group commander, Col. Sal M. Nodjomian, (M.S., ’94) was also a Buckeye. Boos and Nodjomian arranged to have a flag flown at the base, and then sent it to Ohio State to have re-flown at the university. As part of “Operation Buckeye Pride,” the flag will be raised by nearly 100 ROTC Cadets in a ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Thursday (4/16) in front of Bricker Hall on the Oval. The flag and other memorabilia will be on display in Bricker Hall through the end of the month. Read more >

University employees named "Top Lawyers" in Central Ohio

In the April edition of Columbus CEO magazine, the following lawyers associated with Ohio State were named as "Top Lawyers" in Central Ohio: Christopher Culley, Joseph Irvine, Mary Lynn Readey and Julie Vannatta (Office of Legal Affairs); Virginia Trethewey (OSU Alumni Association); and Richard Daley, Robert Krivoshey, Kathy Seward Northern, Douglas Whaley and Charles Wilson (Moritz College of Law).

April 15: Georg to deliver Distinguished Lecture in Pharmacy

Gunda Georg will present “Alzheimer’s Disease and Tubulin-binding Agents: A Potential New Therapeutic Approach” at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (4/15) in 107 Parks Hall. Georg is professor and head of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, University of Minnesota. She holds the Robert Vince Endowed Chair, the McKnight Presidential Chair in Medicinal Chemistry, and is the Director of the Institute for Therapeutics Discovery and Development. Contact 292-4745. Open House at OSU's Cartoon Library and Museum April 17

The public is invited to enjoy the exhibition, "Light: A Forgotten 19th Century Humor Magazine," along with behind-the-scenes tours of the library stacks and a display of special treasures from the collection of the Cartoon Library and Museum, from 3-5 p.m. Friday (4/17) at the Cartoon Library and Museum, 27 W. 17th Ave. Mall. CEd hosts Creative Pension and Benefits Seminar May 1

Changing benefit plans and compensation structures for employees is the focus of the 27th annual Creative Pension and Benefits Seminar, to be hosted by Continuing Education from 8:25 a.m.-4:15 p.m. Friday (5/1) at the Fawcett Center. The seminar provides business, legal and financial professionals current updates and factual information on the latest trends in employee benefit and compensation, qualified plan design, and recent legislative changes. Nominations are being sought for the Dick Maxwell Award, presented to a faculty or staff member who has made an outstanding contribution to a student with a disability or to the Office for Disability Services.
