The Faculty Center and Student Services Center, convenient online centers for course instructors and staff who serve students, are now available at Buckeye Link (click Faculty/Staff tab), as part of the new Student Information System. The Faculty Center provides instructors with access to class and grade rosters, an easy way to e-mail students on a roster, and information about advisees. An online reference guide to help instructors navigate through the Faculty Center is available. Spotlight on ... AAAS Community Extension Center

The Department of African American and African Studies Community Extension Center, 905 Mt. Vernon Ave. is the outreach component of the university's Department of African American and African Studies. Located in the historic Mount Vernon area in near east Columbus, the Community Extension Center provides community outreach and education programs designed to enhance the educational opportunities of students and improve the quality of life for children, teens, adults and senior citizens who live and work in the neighborhoods near and around the center and Columbus' urban communities. Activities such as faculty and student research projects, non-credit courses designed to offer personal and community enrichment, and college classes aimed at non-traditional students provide a valuable context for the university's commitment to outreach and engagement and research. CHILD ADHD STUDY: Does your child take a long-acting stimulant for ADHD, but still have trouble with symptoms? And would you consider adding a non-stimulant ADHD medication to their current ADHD treatment? If your answer is yes, your child may be eligible to participate in a study to test the safety and efficacy of an investigational, non-stimulant ADHD medication. Trial medication and office visits will be provided at no cost to participants. Cost of your child's current ADHD medicine will be your responsibility. Committee on Institutional Cooperation Academic Leadership Program nominations

Susan Williams, vice provost for academic policy and faculty resources, announced a call for nominations for the 2009-2010 Committee on Institutional Cooperation Academic Leadership Program. Selected faculty (either full professors or associate professors who are close to achieving promotion) will participate in a year-long, two-part program: an external program with fellows from all public CIC institutions and an internal leadership program of meetings and workshops. Interested faculty should contact their department chairs/school directors, or deans of colleges without departments, as soon as possible. Final selections will be made in early May. HYPERTENSION STUDY. The Department of Family Medicine at The Ohio State University is currently enrolling for a research study for people with stage 2 hypertension. This study is looking at how effective a combination pill of valsartan and aliskiren works versus valsartan alone. Participation will last up to 12 weeks and participants may receive up to $700. Today: North Indian classical musician to perform at Ohio State Newark

 North Indian classical musician Anupama Bhagwat will perform a live concert at 7 p.m. today (4/15) in the Alford Performing Arts Hall at the Reese Center, on the Newark campus. Play it safe when traveling abroad to study, conduct research

As more students travel around the world to study independently, conduct research and attend conferences, taking some precautionary steps before making airline reservations can help protect the university community. When traveling abroad independently or in groups for the purpose of research, internships, special projects, conferences, and/or service learning, students should check in with the Office of International Affairs at least one quarter in advance of their travel plans, to be advised of the supplemental health insurance program, U.S. embassy registration procedures and to inquire about U.S. Department of State travel warnings. Veterinary Medicine hosts annual open house April 18

The annual College of Veterinary Medicine Open House will take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday (4/18). Activities include: Small animal surgery demonstrations, exotic pets display and discussion, pilot dogs visit, agility dog demonstration, small animal ultrasound examinations, student panels, admission presentations, and more. Today: Summer Film Series at Wex announced live at 2 p.m.

Watch live today at 2 p.m. as the Wexner Center announces live via streaming video its annual summer film series. An annual highlight of the film calendar, the summer film series has taken filmgoers on A Summer Abroad, through vintage B-Movies, and last year, a very popular Stanley Kubrick retrospective. April 16 talk at OSU: Tree Islands of the Everglades

Arnold van der Valk, professor of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology at Iowa State University, will present “Tree Islands of the Everglades: Past, Present and Future” in the spring seminar series of the School of Environment and Natural Resources, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday (4/16). Biometric health numbers: Sign up for Super Screening Day

To receive your biometric health numbers at no cost, reserve your appointment at the Super Screening Day to be held from 7 a.m.-noon Thursday (4/30) in the Agricultural Administration Building Auditorium. Enter the numbers into your Personal Health Assessment online questionnaire, and become eligible to receive a medical premium reduction. Schedule an appointment

Join the Tobacco Treatment Center's Outpatient Program

The OSU Medical Center Tobacco Treatment Center is piloting a new outpatient program to provide group and individual counseling to individuals who want to quit tobacco use. The Center is looking for smokers or tobacco users interested in quitting, and are covered by the University Health Plan, to participate. The program consists of four counseling sessions within a six week time frame. The sessions are free, and medication costs are covered as outlined in the University Health Plan.
