Chancellor Fingerhut: Ohio State a key to Ohio's economic advancement
Eric Fingerhut, chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents, said Ohio State holds several keys to Ohio's economic revival and advancement, as he delivered the James F. Patterson Land-Grant University Lecture on Friday (4/24) at the Nationwide-Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center on campus. Following the lecture, several projects were selected for grants. HYPERTENSION STUDY FOR AFRICAN AMERICANS. The Department of Family Medicine at The Ohio State University is currently enrolling for a research study for African Americans with stage 2 hypertension. This study is looking at how effective the combination of aliskiren and amlodipine is compared with amlodipine alone. The study comprises 6-8 visits to our clinic at Rardin Family Practice and participants may receive up to $700. Graduate Associate Teaching Award winners announced
The winners of this year's Graduate Associate Teaching Award are: Michael Boss, Physics; Kyle Kopko, Political Science; Todd Letcher, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering; Sungjoo Park, Physical Activity and Educational Sciences; Sharon Ross, Linguistics; Anice Sabag-Daigle, Microbiology; Jessica Spears, Microbiology; Alexis Stern, English; Susan Vdovichenko, Slavic Language and Literature; and Aaron Wenzel, Greek and Latin. May 1-2 conference examines race and culture in three countries
The Mershon Center for International Security Studies will hold "The Race in Culture: 20th-Century Ethnology and Empire in Comparative Perspective" on Friday (5/1) and Saturday (5/2). The conference explores the 20th-century transition from race to culture as categories of legitimation for human difference, comparing the U.S., France and China. Furniss Award winner to discuss minority empowerment
Erin K. Jenne, associate professor of international relations and European studies at Central European University in Budapest, will discuss her book Ethnic Bargaining: The Paradox of Minority Empowerment at noon Monday (5/4) at the Mershon Center for International Security Studies. Winner of the center’s Edgar S. Furniss Award, the book uses field research in Eastern Europe to explore conditions under which ethnic minority groups radicalize their demands against state governments. Administrative Research Council hosts OSU Grants Update
The Administrative Research Council (http://research.osu.edu/arc/) is hosting the first annual OSU Grants Update from 9 a.m.-noon Thursday (5/7) at 115 Biomedical Research Tower.
