Headline newsSUPERMAP OF AVIAN FLU YIELDS NEW INFO ON SOURCE/SPREADScientists have designed a new, interactive map of the spread of the avian flu virus (H5N1) that for the first time incorporates genetic, geographic and evolutionary information that may help predict where the next outbreak of the virus is likely to occur. In the process, they also tested hypotheses about the nature of specific strains of the virus that appear to be heading westward and have the ability to infect humans. A team of biomedical experts, led by Daniel Janies, OSU assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics, used special software to create an evolutionary tree of the virus’s mutations. is hosting “African American Males: Beyond the School to Prison
Pipeline and Moving Towards Opportunity,” on Friday (5/11) in
the Moritz College of Law's Saxbe Auditorium. The conference will focus
on the different and sometimes subtle ways in which the educational
system and prison system interact to create disparate situations for
African American males, the factors and policies that contribute to
the success of black males, and solutions and recommendations for alleviating
the disparities males face. The conference begins at 9 a.m. and is
free and open to the public. The information is quite current and with items such as newspapers and magazines is updated on a daily basis. Nearly 200 links are provided for reviewed and subject-indexed Web sites. SBRC shows how to start a small business; write a business plan; and buy, sell, finance and grow a business as well as locate and expand a business.
