Spencer, assistant professor of African American and African Studies, Pennsylvania State University will deliver “Revolutionary Black Womanhood and the Black Panther Party,” from 1-2:15 p.m. today (5/4) in 347 University Hall. Each exhibit consists of a billboard-sized graphic and an accompanying quote that reflects the positive attributes of diversity. The opening ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday (5/6) features guest speaker Renee Powell, the only African-American female to have earned a Class A membership in both the LPGA and PGA of America. Senator Steve Stivers, an Ohio Senate member since January 2003, will discuss his experiences in Iraq where he served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Ohio National Guard. Contact: 292-4545 DANCE DOWNTOWN PERFORMANCES MAY 4, 5The Department of Dance is presenting its popular show, Dance Downtown Rocks! at the Riffe Center’s Capitol Theatre at 8 p.m. today (5/4) and Saturday (5/5). OSU dancers will perform in the evening event, which spotlights the Vernon Reid Project and Trisha Brown's Set and Reset/Reset. The Vernon Reid Project is rock and roll, up close and live, with 27 dancers and the musicians in Reid's New York band Masque giving a powerful performance. The series kicks off at 3 p.m. Monday (5/7) with Nada Mustafa Ali, a researcher in the Women's Rights Division for Human Rights Watch, presenting “Gender, Race, and Conflict in Darfur.” The lecture will take place in the Hale Black Cultural Center and is free and open to the public. Led by Jim Chatfield, horticulture specialist with the OSU Extension Center at Wooster, participants will tour the arboretum’s immense crabapple collection, and learn how to select and buy crabapple trees.
