MERSHON CENTER SPONSORS PEACE STUDIES

The Mershon Center for International Security Studies is sponsoring "Peace Matters: A Forum on the Discipline and Practice of Peace and Conflict Studies," on Friday-Saturday, May 11-12, at the Mershon Center. This conference, co-sponsored by the Ohio Council of Churches, will be an interdisciplinary workshop on peace and conflict studies in the United States. Day One will concentrate on how the subject is taught at U.S. universities, where it should head in the future, and how to institutionalize its presence in campus curricula. Day Two will feature peace activists from Ohio and beyond, highlighting practical steps that people interested in peace can take beyond the confines of the academy. Read more >

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING LECTURE SERIES

Mechanical Engineering presents the 125th Anniversary Distinguished Lecture Series featuring K. W. Wang, Ph.D., Diefenderfer Chaired Professor in Mechanical Engineering and Director of Structural Dynamics and Controls Lab at The Pennsylvania State University. Professor Wang's lecture, "Adaptive Structural Systems Multi-Field Tailoring" will review and assess some of the recent interdisciplinary efforts in multi-field tailoring for control and monitoring enhancement of adaptive structural systems. ACCAD OPEN HOUSE

Ohio State's Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD) is hosting its annual open house on Friday, May 11, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the ACCAD Building, 1224 Kinnear Rd. Open parking will be available in front of the building during the open house. The free event will showcase recent student and staff computer animation, motion capture and visualization research, and will feature on-site demos of current student, staff and faculty research and thesis work. WOMEN IN STEM FIELDS HONORED

Ohio State will honor women with advanced degrees in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and math) in a series of events on Friday, May 11. USAC TOWN MEETING WITH PRESIDENT

The University Staff Advisory Committee is hosting the final Town Meeting with President Karen A. Holbrook from noon-1 p.m. Friday (5/18) at 130 Drinko Hall. President Holbrook will be joined by Executive Vice President and Provost Barbara Snyder (also her last Town Meeting), Senior Vice President of Business and Finance William Shkurti, and Associate Vice President of Human Resources Larry Lewellen. BLOG AND WIKI WEEK AT DIGITAL UNION

The Digital Union invites faculty and staff to learn about the world of blogs and wikis - web tools to create more dynamic and interactive teaching and learning environments. A Blog & Wiki Open House kicks off the week on Monday, May 14 from 1-4 p.m. The event features interactive poster sessions with faculty, staff, and students who work with wikis and blogs. A Blog & Wiki Workshop (registration required) concludes the week on Friday. Throughout the week, the Digital Union will be making new resources available on its web site. READ ALOUD FEATURES VONNEGUT

ReadAloud continues its regular weekly programming on Thursdays from 3-4pm at the Wexner Center Cafe: Cam's on Campus. May 10 features a tribute to Kurt Vonnegut (1922-2007). Readers include Joanna Anderson, University Libraries, Mykola Bilokonsky, OIT, Jason Payne, Comparative Studies and Mark Spurgeon from the Wexner Center. Refreshments provided for the audience and all are welcome to attend.
