WIDEMAN IS NEXT READING SERIES GUESTThe OSU Creative Writing Program Reading Series is presenting a free public reading with John Edgar Wideman at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (5/16) in the Wexner Film/Video Theatre. A book signing will follow. Wideman is the first writer to win the PEN/Faulkner Award twice, in 1984 for “Sent for You Yesterday” and in 1990 for “Philadelphia Fire.” The event is co-sponsored by the Creative Writing Program, Department of English, the President and Provost's Diversity Lecture and Cultural Arts Series, the Wexner Center, and Minority Affairs. Contact: 292-2242 SHAH IS ASIAN AMERICAN DISTINGUISHED LECTURER MAY 18Nayan Shah, professor at the University of California-San Diego, will deliver the Asian American Studies program’s annual Distinguished Lecture in Asian American History from 11 a.m.-noon Friday (5/18) at the Hale Cultural Center. Shah will discuss “Intimacy, Strangers and Democratic Life in Early 20th Century Asia America.” A lunch reception from noon-2 p.m. will follow the lecture. Shah is the author of “Contagious Divides: Epidemics and Race in San Francisco’s Chinatown” (2001) - winner of the Association for Asian American Studies History Book Award. The event is free and open to the public. The award recognizes a university woman who exhibits a special kind of leadership with a certificate and $500 honorarium. Nominations can only be submitted by AFPW members.
