OHIO STATE CHOSEN FOR REVAMPED HIV CLINICAL TRIALS NETWORK

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health, has awarded a seven-year, multimillion-dollar grant to the OSU Medical Center to continue testing new AIDS treatments, vaccines and prevention methods. The award came after the federal agency chose Ohio State’s HIV/AIDS Clinical Trials Unit to be a member of its restructured HIV/AIDS research network following a painstaking selection process. The seven-year grant provides $1.7 million for the first year. Subsequent annual funding depends on the number of patients who enter the trials. Read More >

Based on national preventive care guidelines, the PHA provides a consistent way to monitor and compare personal health information over time. Completing the PHA by Sunday (9/30) will earn participants 50 incentive points in the Your Plan for Health 2007 Faculty and Staff Incentive Program plus qualify university health plan members for a $120 premium reduction ($10 a month) during 2008. ECE HOSTS MICROELECTRONICS RESEARCHER TODAY

Jack C. Lee, professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, will present “MOSCAP’s and MOSFET's on III-V Channel Materials with Si, Ge and SiGe Interface Passivation Layer” at 1:30 p.m. today (5/24) in 260 Dreese Laboratory. Lee holds the Cullen Trust For Higher Education Endowed Professorship in Engineering at UT-A. His visit to OSU is sponsored by the IEEE EDS/LEOS Chapter. Read More >

FINANCIAL ROUNDTABLES CONTINUE AT THE FACULTY CLUB

The Faculty Club financial roundtable series continues from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday (5/25) in the main dining room with “Financial Strategies for the Gay and Lesbian Community.” Same-gender couples often face different laws, tax provisions, and planning choices. The event is open to the campus community. The cost is $5 per person, lunch included. Seating is limited. For reservations, call 292-2262.

ANTHROPOLOGY HOSTS MEXICAN FINE ART LECTURE, RECEPTION

Michael Chibnik, author of “Crafting Tradition: The Making and Marketing of Oaxacan Wood Carvings” will offer an in-depth look at the international trade in wood carvings from Oaxaca, Mexico at 6 p.m. Wednesday (5/30) in the film theater at the Wexner Center for the Arts. Chibnik will discuss the history and production and the effects of globalization. A reception and book signing will follow. The event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required. ‘FOOL FOR LOVE’ PRODUCTION BEGINS TODAY AT OSU NEWARK

The Ohio State Newark Department of Theatre is presenting its spring production of Sam Shepard’s play “Fool For Love” today (5/24), Friday (5/25) and Saturday (5/26), and again Thursday (5/31), Friday (6/1) and Saturday (6/2). Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre in LeFevre Hall. Tickets are $3 for students and $4 for the general public. All you need to do is register using your OSU Internet ID (name.#).

UNIVERSITY SUMMER HOURS BEGIN JUNE 11

University summer hours of 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. will begin on Monday (6/11). Hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. will resume on Tuesday (9/4). Many offices that serve students or the public remain open on Wednesdays from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. These offices should stay open on an as needed basis. However, if the decision is to discontinue extended hours for Summer Quarter, the official extended hours will resume on the first Wednesday of Autumn Quarter. These offices are responsible for communicating extended hours and any schedule changes to their customers. Please communicate this information to members of your college or administrative unit.

VETERINARY COLLEGE HOSTS PUPPY CLASSES

The College of Veterinary Medicine is offering puppy socialization classes for puppies age 8-16 weeks and their owners. Puppy Kindergarten serves to socialize new puppies so that they may learn to handle stress and new situations well as an adult and provides owner education in all aspects of canine development and behavior problem prevention and resolution. Weekly classes begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday (6/6). OSU employees and students receive a $10 discount on the six-week course (regularly $95). Registration and fees to reserve a spot in class are due by noon Monday (6/4). Class size is limited. Read More >

ACCESS THE AGING NETWORK WORKSHOP SET FOR JUNE 15

As a part of the Quest for the Best initiative, Human Resources is presenting “Accessing the Aging Network” from noon-1 p.m. Friday (6/15) in 425 Gateway building. Sue Howson, Central Ohio Agency on Aging will present an overview of the resources available to older adults and their family members. This will include basic eligibility and services information about the PASSPORT program, Franklin County Senior Options, the Assisted Living program and other resources in the area.
