NEW VENDOR TO MAINTAIN ELEVATORS AND ENSURE SAFETYThe university recently entered into a temporary contract to test and maintain elevators in 147 academic and research buildings on the central Columbus campus. The action was taken because of concerns about the previous contractor's performance and testing documentation. Ohio State has been working closely with the Ohio Department of Commerce, which oversees elevator maintenance and safety. The department has not asked that any of the elevators be taken out of service as both the state and the university have deemed the elevators safe to operate. All elevators covered by the interim contract passed a rigorous brake inspection within the last 18 months. Ohio State will continue to monitor contractor performance. Testing will be coordinated to avoid any inconvenience. Contact: Melissa Bellini at bellini.4@osu.edu or 292-0257.
