Headline newsTODAY: UNIVERSITY MEMORIAL SERVICE SET FOR 7 P.M.A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. today (5/19) in the Prior Health Sciences Library to remember the OSU students who died during this school year. The service will celebrate the lives of those who died and reflect on our community’s loss in their passing. The annual nondenominational service is cosponsored by the University Interfaith Association and the Student Advocacy Center. All members of the OSU community, as well as family and friends of the deceased, are welcome. Contact: pachell.1@osu.edu DENMAN UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH FORUM WINNERS ANNOUNCEDCongratulations to the winners of the 2008 Denman Undergraduate Research Forum that took place on Wednesday (5/14) in the RPAC. More than 400 students presented their research in 11 categories making this the largest and most competitive Denman Forum ever. DISTINGUISHED UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH MENTOR AWARDS ANNOUNCEDMichael Boehm (Plant Pathology), Cynthia Clopper (Linguistics), Richard Hughes (Physics), Sarah Schoppe-Sullivan (Human Development and Family Science), and Richard Swenson (Biochemistry) were recognized for their exceptional service as faculty research mentors for undergraduate students at the recent Denman Undergraduate Research Forum. More than 40 student presenters submitted nominations for the Distinguished Undergraduate Research Mentor awards. Student nominators consistently described the outstanding support and guidance they received from faculty, as well as the life-changing educational and personal impact that conducting research as an undergraduate creates. TODAY: MEDICAL CENTER HOSTS GLOBAL HEALTH DAYThe Medical Center is hosting Global Health Day at 11 a.m. today (5/19) on the OSUMC campus. The event aims to raise awareness on global health issues, such as poverty and health, women’s health and HIV/AIDS by including lectures about current issues in global health by national speakers, a community fair, free lunch donated by local restaurants and opportunities to learn about and donate to Ride for World Health. Now faculty and staff can easily access academic business centers, such as Carmen, Academic Advising, Scheduling, Degree Audit Report, Class Rosters and Career Services, to name a few. Visit the new Buckeye Link at http://buckeyelink.osu.edu/ HONOR A VETERAN WITH A SPOT ON THE HONOR BRICK WALKWAYRemembrance Park was established in 2006 to honor all veterans and especially those OSU alumni who died while in the service of their country. Once completed, an Honor Brick walkway will have more than 2,000 bricks displaying the names of those who have served our country. Even though road construction is scheduled on Tuttle Park Place, it is not expected to disrupt the overall appearance of the park. Read more > UNIVERSITY TO CONDUCT STAFF CULTURE SURVEYOhio State will be conducting a survey to obtain the opinions of university staff regarding leadership, work environment, job satisfaction, and more. The 2008 Culture Survey is sponsored by the Office of the President and will take place online. All university staff and a random sample of medical center staff will receive an e-mail invitation to participate on Thursday (5/29). The survey will close on Thursday (6/19). STRESS, INFLAMMATION AND HEALTH ACROSS THE LIFESPAN MAY 20Gregory Miller, associate professor of Psychology, University of British Columbia will deliver "Stress, Inflammation and Health Across the Lifespan" at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday (5/20) at 115 Biomedical Research Tower. The panelists will discuss pitfalls faced by women in the arts over the years, and the challenges they still face today. The event is free. High St., Suite 430 for newly hired faculty and staff to help with decisions regarding retirement choices under ARP/OPERS/STRS. The seminar is designed for faculty and staff who have an appointment of at least 75 percent FTE and have been with the university for less than 120 days.
