Headline newsPROVOST MAKES ADMINISTRATIVE CHANGESIn 2003, a white paper developed by then-Provost Ed Ray and former President Karen Holbrook directed that Ohio State’s five arts and sciences colleges be organized into a federation. The new federated structure provided that each of these units - the Colleges of the Arts; Biological Sciences; Humanities; Mathematical and Physical Sciences; and Social and Behavioral Sciences - would retain its own dean, with an executive dean in the leadership role. Mandated by the white paper, a review of the federation was begun in autumn 2007 and a final report issued in late April, 2008. Provost Joseph A. Alutto has announced a number of administrative changes in response to the review findings. These changes are explained in "A Revised Federation for the Arts and Sciences.” The provost shared his vision for the arts and sciences in an interview. Read more > FULBRIGHT-HAYES GRANT AWARDED TO THREE FROM OHIO STATEThe U.S. Department of Education has awarded three from Ohio State with a prestigious Fulbright-Hays grant. Morgan Liu, an assistant professor in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, is the recipient of the Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad grant, and doctoral candidates Michael Ewers from the Department of Geography, and Mark Soderstrom from the Department of History, are the recipients of the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad grants. Read more > MILLER NAMED FIRST VP OF AMERICAN BURN ASSOCIATIONSidney Miller, director of the OSU Medical Center’s Burn Center, has been appointed the first vice president of the American Burn Association. Miller’s responsibilities as vice president include promoting and supporting burn-related research, patient care, education, rehabilitation and prevention and improving the quality of care provided to burn patients through advocacy initiatives. The burn center at Ohio State’s Medical Center is the only adult burn treatment center in central Ohio. The familiar web login form used by several OSU applications will be adapted to accommodate users of the BuckeyePass security token. In addition, those using screen readers should encounter improved compatibility. BuckeyePass users will be able to substitute their pin and passcode when logging into applications such as SIS and future Peoplesoft HR systems. Applications that do not require this more robust password system will be unaffected. The change is scheduled for today (5/20). Preview the new page. HENG TO DISCUSS ARCHAEOLOGY OF SINGAPORE MAY 22The Columbus Chapter of the Archaeological Institute of America is presenting a lecture on the archaeology of Singapore at 8 p.m. Thursday (5/22) in 014 University Hall. Derek Heng, assistant professor of History at OSU Marion will deliver "The Archaeology of Singapore: Reconstructing a Classical Malay Kingdom." The lecture is free and open to the public. As a result, there will be a temporary suspension on the processing of Flexible Spending Account reimbursement checks during the system downtime. FSA claims submitted during the week of Monday (5/19) will be processed the week of Monday (5/26). Normal processing of FSA claims will resume on Tuesday (5/27).
