PRESIDENT GEE’S MAY 28 ADDRESS TO FACULTY AVAILABLE ONLINE

President E. Gordon Gee’s address to faculty, “The Pace of Change,” was delivered on Wednesday (5/28) and can now be viewed online. In his speech, the president discussed how Ohio State is moving ahead in the six areas of special focus that he announced last fall.

SCIENCE CAFE COLUMBUS: GENDER EQUALITY IN THE LABORATORY

Science Cafe Columbus will host “Women in White Coats: Gender Equality in the Laboratory” with physics major Jessica Hanzlik, OSU's newest and first female Rhodes Scholar, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday (6/4) at the South Campus Gateway Landmark Movie Theater. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is free. Hanzlik will present the results of her interviews with French male and female scientists (from all levels of higher education) on how their opinions about French culture and tradition correlate with general, gender-specific trends in science. STUDENT ART AND TECHNOLOGY EXHIBITION OPENS TODAY

Students enrolled in Art and Technology courses in the Department of Art will showcase their final projects in new media art, video, animation, digital imaging, holography, 3D modeling and Internet art in an exhibition, titled Simulacra. The opening celebration is from 5-9 p.m. today (5/29) at the Haskett Hall Gallery and Soundstage (first and second floors). CLOSURE OF OHIO UNION GARAGE AND COLLEGE ROAD JUNE 9-20

The Ohio Union Garage will be closed Monday (6/9)-Friday (6/20) due to construction and paving activities on College Road. College Road will also be closed south of 17th Avenue to Hagerty Drive. Hagerty Drive will remain open to allow service to Hagerty Hall, Mendenhall and the Faculty Club. Deliveries and service for Page Hall and Sullivant Hall will need to be coordinated with Don Bissett of Transporation and Parking (554-5668) for access south of 17th Avenue.

OFFICE HOURS FOR HELP WITH IRB SUBMISSIONS

The Office of Responsible Research Practices holds office hours to help researchers prepare IRB submissions and exemption requests. The sessions are intended to help student and faculty researchers navigate IRB forms, policies and review procedures. The next session for biomedical/cancer researchers will be held from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday (6/4) in 652 Fry Hall. Subsequent office hours are posted online (click on Assistance for Students/Researchers).

OSU LIMA KIDS’ COLLEGE NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

Registration has been extended until Friday (6/6) for Ohio State Lima’s annual Kids’ College for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students, set for Wednesday (6/11)-Friday (6/13). The day camp is designed to provide a positive educational experience and foster a lifetime love of learning. Students who will be sixth, seventh or eighth graders in Autumn 2008 are eligible for the camp. Pre-register online. The cost for all three days is $60 per child. JUNE 9 BIO SCIENCES GOLF OUTING TO SUPPORT SCHOLARSHIPS

Join College of Biological Sciences alumni (including former OSU quarterback Craig Krenzel), faculty, staff and students at the sixth Annual Biological Sciences Golf Outing, to be held on the newly renovated OSU Scarlet Course on Monday (6/9). The previously scheduled event was postponed due to heavy rain. Registration includes lunch, dinner and beverages on the course. Open to all golf enthusiasts, the event is coordinated by alumni volunteers and supports the Alumni Scholarship. Register online or contact 688-3632 or cahill.92@osu.edu.
