Three OSU students awarded prestigious Fulbright-Hays Grants
Three Ohio State doctoral candidates have been awarded the prestigious Fulbright-Hays grant by the U.S. Department of Education. Matthew Curtis, Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Literatures, Amelia Hubbard, Department of Anthropolog, and David McLaughlin, Department of Spanish and Portuguese, are the recipients of the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad grants, totaling $105,000. Honor a veteran with a spot on the honor brick walkway
Remembrance Park was established in 2006 to honor all veterans and especially those OSU alumni who died while in the service of their country. Once completed, an Honor Brick walkway will have more than 2,000 bricks displaying the names of those who have served our country. Road construction at Tuttle Park Place is temporary and will not disrupt the overall appearance of the park. Order your brick now so it will be in place to honor your veteran by this fall. QUIC program receives NACE Innovation Excellence Award
The National Association of Colleges and Employers has awarded its 2009 Innovation Excellence Award to Fisher College's Qualified Undergraduate Interview Candidate program. Administered through the Office of Career Management, the QUIC program prepares students for a professional job and internship search through a series of online modules with quizzes and a mandatory mock interview. Once students complete the program, they become eligible to participate in recruiter interviews in the Office of Career Management. Today (5/14)-Sunday (5/17), international scholars, disciples, and admirers of OSU Professor Harvey Friedman, the world’s leading mathematical logician, will be attending "Foundational Adventures," a conference in honor of his 60th birthday. The interdisciplinary conference will address his fundamental contributions to mathematics, computing science, philosophy, and music. Author Ernest Gaines to speak, sign books today at OSU Newark
World-renowned author Ernest Gaines will speak at 7:30 p.m. today (5/14) in the Alford Performing Arts Hall in the Reese Center at Ohio State Newark. Rebekah Gee, physician, women's health advocate, and daughter of OSU President Gordon Gee, will deliver "Winning the Fight Against Breast Cancer" at noon Friday (5/15) in the Veterinary Hospital Auditorium at the College of Veterinary Medicine. Her presentation is the keynote address for "Pink Week," a series of breast cancer awareness events and fundraisers hosted by the college’s Komen for the Cure team. Ohio State's Digital Storytelling Showcase, from 10-11 a.m. Friday (5/15) at the Wexner Center Film/VideoTheater, will celebrate the Second Annual International Day for Sharing Life Stories. Ohio State hosts Scarlet Gray and Ag Day May 15
More than 600 Columbus area fourth and fifth grade students will visit campus on Friday (5/15) to learn about the world of agriculture through hands-on laboratory activities. Workshops include Chick-hatch, Mozzarella in Minutes, Baby horses are Not Ponies!, Canulated Cow, Ag Communications, Entomology and many more. Mae Ngai to deliver Asian American Studies Lecture May 15
Mae Ngai, award-winning author of and professor of Asian American Studies and History at Columbia University, will discuss the role of language and translation in the murder trial of Ah Jake, an unemployed Chinese gold miner in 1887. Sharma kicks off Kirwan Institute May brown bag lecture series May 15
The Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity will hold a series of lunch-time lectures during May. FDA speaker to talk about personalized medicine
Gregory Campbell, director, Division of Biostatistics, Center for Devices and Radiological Health, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, will present “The Promise of Personalized Medicine: The Challenges for Statistics, Bioinformatics and Biology in Pharmacogenomics,” from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday (5/21) in 160 Meiling Hall. Campbell currently leads a group of almost 50 statisticians at the FDA that provides statistical support and the statistical reviews of FDA’s pre-market device submissions.
