Ohio State team creates new company based on university invention

OSU researchers have developed an MRI-compatible treadmill, which allows physicians to obtain MRI images of the heart immediately after exercise. The technology will soon be available to hospitals and patients everywhere through a new start-up company, EXCMR, Ltd. Members of the inventor team, who also comprise the initial ownership and management group for EXCMR, are Orlando Simonetti, associate professor of internal medicine and radiology at the Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital; cardiologist Subha Raman; John Arnold, professor of engineering; and Eric Foster, who at the time was an OSU graduate student in mechanical engineering. 'Viruses & You' H1N1 Influenza event at COSI May 17

A panel of experts from Ohio State and local health agencies will explore the science behind the recent H1N1 outbreak from 2-3 p.m. Sunday (5/17) at COSI. A panel discussion will explore what viruses are and how lethal and non-lethal strains evolve, how they spread, how Daniel Janies (Biomedical Informatics) is using the Ohio Supercomputer to track the spread of viruses using Google Earth, how the National Guard works with pandemics, and more. Master Gardener Volunteer Program Week May 17-23

From money management to environmental stewardship to good gardening practices, OSU Extension Master Gardeners are finding ways to be more "green." Multicultural Center Intercultural Leadership Awards ceremony May 18

Join the Multicultural Center at 5 p.m. Monday (5/18) at Longaberger Alumni House in honoring this year's recipients of the MCC Intercultural Leadership awards. The annual awards acknowledge individuals and organizations working in cooperation toward intercultural community and social justice. May 19: 2009 Green Business Conference and Green Building Expo

The Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering and Construction Systems Management, along with the Columbus Green Building Forum, are hosting a combined Green Building Expo and Get Green Business Conference on Tuesday (5/19) at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center-Building 191. The expo is free and open to the public from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., and includes speakers, educational programs, and close to 70 exhibitors. IRB forms help session May 20

Investigators, graduate students and research staff are encouraged to attend a help session on IRB applications from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday (5/20) in 113 Research Foundation. Office of Responsible Research Practices staff will provide an overview of the Initial Review of Human Subjects Research application and will answer questions regarding other IRB forms. Celebrating the International Museum of Cartoon Art Collection

OSU Libraries is presenting a free three-part reading and discussion series, Reading Comics: Krazy Kat, Gasoline Alley and Peanuts Revisited, in conjunction with the transfer of the International Museum of Cartoon Art Collection to the OSU Cartoon Library and Museum. Discussions will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Mondays, starting (6/8), in the seminar room adjacent to the Cartoon Library and Museum in the Wexner Center for the Arts. Registration required.
