EHE senior faculty selected as AERA fellows
Four College of Education and Human Ecology faculty have been chosen for the American Educational Research Association’s new fellows program. The four, all from the School of Educational Policy and Leadership, were selected for their research and their development of research opportunities and settings. Bruce Tuckman and Anita Woolfolk Hoy were designated as Inaugural Fellows, while Wayne Hoy and Patricia Lather are 2009 Fellows. The association honored them at its annual conference in San Diego. University memorial service set for May 27
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday (5/27) in Browning Amphitheatre to remember the OSU students who died during this school year. The service will celebrate the lives of those who died and reflect on our community’s loss in their passing. The annual nondenominational service is cosponsored by the University Interfaith Association and the Student Advocacy Center. All members of the Ohio State community, and family and friends of the deceased, are welcome. Rain site is the Prior Health Sciences Library, 376 W. 10th Ave., 5th floor. Nanofiber Solutions wins 2009 Deloitte Business Plan Competition at Fisher
A team presenting a newly patented nanotechnology device won the 2009 Deloitte Business Plan Competition on Saturday (5/16). The team, Nanofiber Solutions, developed a start-up business plan to market nanofiber mats to improve screening and research in biomedical fields. The winning team received $95,000 in cash and services to use as start-up funds to transform their idea into a thriving business. The Nanofiber Solutions team included Jed Johnson, a doctoral candidate in OSU's Materials Science in Engineering; John Lannutti, associate professor in the program; Brian Barnhart, an MBA candidate at Carnegie Mellon and Ross Kayuha, CEO at Columbus-based Strategic Thinking Industries. Germanic Languages & Literatures Film Series concludes today
The final film in the series, The Lives Of Others (2006), will be screened at 7:30 p.m. today (5/26) in 180 Hagerty. Writer-director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's extraordinary feature debut offers prescient lessons about the danger of societies in which governments are given free rein to monitor their citizens and Internet users voluntarily post their most intimate details on the Web. "Meeting and Interacting with People on a Professional Level," hosted by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and presented by Denise Pietzsch, executive director, E.P.I.C. Group, Etiquette and Protocol Image Consultants, LLC, will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday (5/27) in 260 Dreese Lab. MCC hosts StoryTelling Festival and Global OSU Storybox launch
The Multicultural Center invites you to the StoryTelling Festival and Global OSU Storybox Launch, "Ordinary People Telling Extraordinary Stories" from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday (6/3) and Thursday (6/4) in the Hale Cultural Center. Stories from the StoryBox drop boxes at OSU and in Columbus will come together and individuals or groups will take 5-10 minutes to share stories of transformation. The festival will culminate in the global launch of the OSU StoryBox to its new location somewhere else in the world. University hours for summer 2009 begin June 15
University summer hours of 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. will be implemented effective Monday (6/15). Regular hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. will resume on Tuesday (9/8). Offices that remain open later hours to serve students or the public should stay open on an as needed basis. If the decision is to discontinue extended hours for Summer Quarter, official extended hours will resume Autumn Quarter. These offices are responsible for communicating extended hours and any schedule changes to their customers.
America’s Financial Time Bomb: IOUSA screening June 2
The John Glenn School of Public Affairs and the Public Affairs Student Association will present “America’s Financial Time Bomb” at 6 p.m. Tuesday (6/2) in the Wexner Center Film/Video Theater. The film screening of I.O.U.S.A. will be followed by an interactive discussion on the new fiscal challenges facing the presidential administration, the nation, and the world with Diane Lim Rogers, Chief Economist with the Concord Coalition and Jason Seligman, assistant professor at the John Glenn School. Orientation to Research Administration at Ohio State May 27
Are you new to research administration at the university? The Office of Research Training, Education and Communication is providing an overview of the grants management process from proposal preparation through project closeout, at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday (5/27) at the Research Foundation. The first two hours will focus on pre-award topics such as sponsor guidelines and budget development, followed by two hours on post-award topics including spending award funds and project monitoring.
