Spotlight on ... Center for Operational Excellence

The Center for Operational Excellence is a member based, not for profit, center of excellence at Fisher College. It is a unique partnership of business leaders and educators who share a common ideal of achieving competitive advantage and excellence in operations management through education, research and networking. Member companies are focused on improving operational excellence at their respective organizations.

The COE provides multiple educational programs on lean, innovation, Six Sigma and supply chain management throughout the year. The keystone program is the quarterly professional development seminar that hosts 90-100 business leaders, students and faculty and works to secure speakers of national caliber. University memorial service today

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. today (5/27) in Browning Amphitheatre to remember the OSU students who died during this school year. The service will celebrate the lives of those who died and reflect on our community’s loss in their passing. The annual nondenominational service is cosponsored by the University Interfaith Association and the Student Advocacy Center. All members of the Ohio State community, and family and friends of the deceased, are welcome. Rain site is the Prior Health Sciences Library, 376 W. 10th Ave., 5th floor. OSU/Nationwide Children's researchers shine in Seoul

At the 6th Extraordinary International Symposium for Recent Advances in Otitis Media, held recently in Seoul, Korea, OSU and Nationwide Children's Hospital researchers from the Department of Otolaryngology demonstrated their collective prowess in getting at the cause of painful ear infections in children and in doing something to fix it. OSU/NCH researchers, headed by Professor Lauren Bakaletz, were recognized as a world leader at the meeting with an award. Attention NIH-funded clinical and translational researchers

The Center for Clinical and Translational Science will be receiving an NIH grant to pay high school students and high school teachers to be part of your research teams this summer. Metro High School and Eastmoor Academy have identified 10 students and four teachers who are highly qualified and motivated and are seeking research experience at OSU. Upcoming 'Best Companies to Work For' survey

Ohio State is being considered for inclusion on the 2010 FORTUNE 100 Best Companies to Work For® list, compiled by Great Place to Work® Institute. Annual African American Farewell Celebration June 13

The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Ohio Union and the Hale Cultural Center invite you to the 16th Annual African American Farewell Celebration, set for 4 p.m. Saturday (6/13) in Hitchcock Hall. The event celebrates students who have graduated in Fall 2008 or Winter 2009, or will graduate Spring 2009 or Summer 2009. Family and friends of graduates are welcome to attend, free of charge. Today: Nick Gelpi lecture, reception in Banvard Gallery

Nick Gelpi, the Howard E. LeFevre Emerging Practitioner Fellow, will discuss Mockups, a collection of his work from the past year of research, at 5:30 p.m. today (5/27) in 250 Knowlton Hall. EEIC Design Showcase set for May 28

P.K. Imbrie of Purdue University will present the Engineering Education Innovation Center and dean’s keynote address, “Opportunities and Priorities in Engineering Education Research” at noon Thursday (5/28) at The Blackwell (Ballroom A), as part of the EEIC Design Showcase. The Flower Teachers focus of May 28 Libraries' ReadAloud

The OSU Libraries ReadAloud weekly programming continues from 3-4 p.m. Thursday (5/28) in the Wexner Center Cafe. Candace Stout and Cody Henderhan, Department of Art Education, will share readings from The Flower Teachers: Stories for a New Generation, a collection of stories of public school art teachers’ narratives of their early experiences in teaching. Menendian, Staats to deliver Kirwan Institute brown bag lecture May 29

The campus community is invited to attend a series of lunch-time lectures this month presented by The Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity. OSU Opera and the Department of Theatre present The Marriage of Figaro

UFSAP workshop addresses stress and depression

The University Faculty and Staff Assistance Program is offering a new workshop, “How to Manage Stress and Depression” from 5-6:15 p.m. Wednesday (6/10) at OSU Managed Health Care Systems, 700 Ackerman Road, Suite 580. Designed for people who experience stress and depression and want to increase their coping skills. The workshop is free but registration is required and space is limited.
