Search for a new chief financial officer

President Gee has formally launched a screening committee to secure a new Chief Financial Officer who will succeed Vice President Bill Shkurti when he retires in March 2010.

In announcing the committee, the president reiterated he fully intends to recruit a top-tier financial leader "who will carry on Bill’s legacy and help to lead this remarkable institution in achieving academic eminence, conducting leading-edge research and forging a strong economic foundation for Ohio.”

Chairing the committee is Chief Investment Officer Jonathan Hook, and he will be supported by executive recruiter Gary Hudepohl of Hudepohl and Associates. Additional members include: Javaune Adams-Gaston, Herb Asher, Ralph Boerner, Richard Dietrich, Brad Harris, Ben Jay, Jay Kasey, John Roberts, and Caroline Whitacre. An additional committee member with private sector experience will join us as well. The search is expected to conclude by late 2009.

USAC to host staff conversation with President Gee June 1

The University Staff Advisory Committee invites staff, faculty and students to join President Gordon Gee for a conversation about the university, our progress and our opportunities, from 4-5 p.m. Monday (6/1) at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center, 2201 Fred Taylor Drive. URO announces 2009 Ohio State Beckman Scholars

Three undergraduate researchers are recipients of a 2009 Beckman Scholar grant. The students, their majors and their advisors are: Philip Bunting, chemistry, Malcolm Chisholm; Ian Green, microbiology, Gustavo Leone; and Emily Wong, microbiology, Venkat Gopalan. Each student will receive $16,000 while conducting independent research with their faculty mentor. Read more:

Today: New York Times bestselling author Tom Woods on campus

May 29: Inwood to present ICS lecture on Chinese Multimedia Poetry

The Institute for Chinese Studies Future of the Past Lecture continues at 2:30 p.m. Friday (5/29) in 060 Jennings. Heather Inwood, assistant professor of Modern Chinese Cultural Studies in DEALL, will deliver “Cyber Folk: Multimedia Poetry in the Aftermath of the Sichuan Earthquake,” a look at the phenomenon of “Quake Poetry,” a nationwide explosion of poetic fervor sparked by the Sichuan earthquake of May 2008. May 30: Molecular Life Sciences interdisciplinary graduate programs symposium

The Biophysics, Biochemistry, and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology interdisciplinary graduate programs' annual symposium will take place on Saturday (5/30) in McPherson Laboratory and the Physics Research Building. The event features 24 student talks and nearly 100 posters highlighting the research accomplishments by the programs' graduate students as well as invited talks by one distinguished faculty member from each program. Block memorial golf tournament to help fund expansion project

The 26th Herbert J. Block Memorial Tournament benefiting the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute will take place at noon Monday (6/22) at Columbus Country Club, 4831 E. Broad St. Proceeds will support ProjectONE – the largest expansion in the university’s history, which includes a new cancer hospital and cancer ambulatory center.
