Spotlight on ... Department of Dance

Walk past the Department of Dance in Sullivant Hall and you might hear djembe drums or classical piano and glimpse a dancer through an open window. The study of dance here reveals the breadth of the field: dance as an art form, as physical practice, as intellectual activity, as cultural and political language, and as a fundamental expression of human behavior.

Students from Ohio to Singapore audition for the nationally recognized BFA and MFA programs designed to foster 21st Century cultural workers and leaders. The new PhD in Dance Studies deepens dance scholarship and its reach to other fields. Fourteen faculty, 10 adjuncts, 125 BFA, MFA, PhD students, 100 minors, and 1,500 non majors form a community that impacts the public through performances on campus and downtown (May 7, 8), lectures, internships, and interactive and interdisciplinary events.
