PHPID continues to fight infectious diseases

The Public Health Preparedness for Infectious Diseases program includes 150 faculty across Ohio State's campus, all working to end the threat of infectious diseases. Several faculty hold interdisciplinary positions across multiple departments and colleges. Seed programs have funded research from water studies in Ohio to AIDS research in Africa. The program was funded in 2005 as a Targeted Investment in Excellence.

Members of the PHPID recently completed a strategic planning session. The five-year plan includes focusing on key themes including technology development and enhancing global impact. We invite faculty members - including emeritus faculty - from across the university, who are working on infectious disease related projects to join our program.

Correction: STRS, OPERS pension reform update

Yesterday, you received an email about the proposed pension reform recommendations by the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) and the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS). Information concerning the calculation of Final Average Salary was incorrect. Both STRS and OPERS recommend using the five highest years of earnings to calculate FAS, compared to the current calculation, which uses the three highest years. The emails indicated FAS would be calculated based on the last five years. The senders apologize for any confusion.

The most current version of the proposals are available on the STRS website or OPERS website.

If you have questions about the proposals, contact STRS at (888) 227-7877 or OPERS at (800) 222-PERS (7377).
