Thiam awarded Fulbright U.S. Scholar Grantstory

Cheikh Thiam, associate professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, is the recipient of the prestigious Fulbright U.S. Scholar Grant. Thiam will travel to Senegal and will be affiliated with the Senghor Foundation and the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa from December 2017 to August 2018 to research the life, poetry and philosophy of Leopold Sedar Senghor. Upon completion of his Fulbright, Thiam plans to write a biography of Senghor.

$1 million for tech investment via Accelerator Awards

The Accelerator Awards program provides Ohio State researchers up to $100,000 to advance and further develop promising technologies and bring them closer to market. Concept development, prototyping, coding, market studies and customer validation efforts are eligible uses for this award. The awards are available to all Ohio State researchers who have disclosed their inventions to the Technology Commercialization Office. Applications for this round of funding are due Monday (6/19).

HR benefits, retirement webinars for new employees

The benefits and retirement webinars for new hires will be presented by HR benefits consultants Tuesday (5/9) and Wednesday (5/10). Current employees who are newly eligible for benefits also are invited to attend. During these sessions, benefits consultants compare medical plan options, review health benefits and explain retirement choices. Participants can ask questions in real time during the webinars.

Waivers/alteration of informed consent workshop

The Office of Responsible Research Practices and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science are offering an intermediate-level workshop that will provide an overview of informed consent alteration and waivers and regulatory definitions with accompanying case examples. Buck-IRB navigation and best practices/available resources also will be discussed. While the session will be tailored to medical researchers, anyone preparing IRB submissions is welcome. The workshop will be held Tuesday (5/16) 8-9 a.m. in the Clinical Skills Education and Assessment Center, 620 Prior Health Sciences Library, 376 W. 10th Ave.

Pedestrian access update

In June 2016, Campus Partners and the university announced a comprehensive vision for the 15th Avenue and High Street area, and construction on the east side is under way. Beginning Wednesday (5/3) and continuing through early to mid August, pedestrian access on the east side of High Street between 16th Avenue and 17th Avenue will be closed. Fencing and signage will be in place throughout the area to redirect pedestrians.

Power washing to begin in 11th Avenue Garage

CampusParc will begin overnight power washing of parking decks, stairwells and common areas in 11th Avenue Garage on Sunday (5/7) at 7 p.m. During the work, which is expected to be complete by 5 a.m. Friday (5/12), please expect nightly rolling deck closures. CampusParc reminds customers to please observe project-related closure signage placed throughout the garage.

The OSU OB/GYN department is taking part in a clinical research trial to study the safety and effectiveness of an investigational oral contraceptive pill. To participate, you must be 16-50 years old, a heterosexual female, in good physical and mental health and a non-smoker (if 35 or older).
