Horack installed as inaugural Armstrong Chair

There wasn't a time in John M. Horack's life when he wasn’t interested in spaceflight. As the Neil A. Armstrong Chair in Aerospace Policy, he will move Ohio State forward to prominence in the global spaceflight community. Horack, professor of aerospace engineering, was installed on May 8 and will work to ensure that space and its benefits are open to everyone, regardless of gender, generation or geography.

Buckeyes serve communities in record numbers

Each April, Buckeye alumni, fans and friends come together in communities across the country to pay forward during the Buckeyes Give: Month of Service hosted by the Office of Volunteer Relations. Growing Healthy Kids Columbus Coalition works to prevent childhood obesity

Eating healthful isn't always the easiest thing to do, especially when you are very young and may not have control over your food choices. Luckily, the Growing Healthy Kids Columbus Coalition is helping to build the healthiest generation yet. With 45 organizations involved, including OSU Extension and Columbus Public Health, the coalition networks and collaborates on childhood obesity prevention efforts.

OSUPD to hold memorial ceremony

Members of The Ohio State University Police Division (OSUPD) will participate in the annual Peace Officers Memorial ceremony on Friday (5/19) at 3 p.m. outside Blankenship Hall, which is named in memory of Officer Michael Blankenship. OSUPD will remember Officer Blankenship, who died in the line of duty in 1997. Respects will be paid to other officers who have lost their lives, and the officers who continue to serve the university community will also be recognized.

Matinees that Matter is a monthly purposeful lunch-and-learn program with video and discussion. Lunch is provided. Financials System maintenance affects eMat, eRequest, eTravel and eReports May 20

There is planned maintenance this weekend for the Financials System that will require downtime for eRequest, eTravel, eReports and Wexner Medical Center's eMaterials (eMat) services. OCIO technicians will be performing maintenance on the Financials System from 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, until midnight EST on Sunday, May 21, which will affect eRequest, eTravel and eReports. Those services will be unavailable during the maintenance period. Wexner Medical Center's eMaterials (eMat) service also will be unavailable during the same maintenance window.

Dr. Susan B. Horwitz to present the Dennis Feller Lecture Series by the Ahns Foundation

Susan B. Horwitz, PhD, will present the 2017 Dennis Feller Lecture Series funded by the Ahns Foundation. Her seminar, Taxol, Tubulin and Tumors: A Story of Drug Development, will be at 11:30 Thursday, May 18, in 111 Parks Hall in the College of Pharmacy. Dr. Horwitz is the Rose C. Falkenstein Chair in Cancer Research and a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Pathways grief support group

Tuesdays from May 23 to June 27 6:30-8 p.m. at the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center, this series provides an opportunity to discuss and learn healthful responses to various aspects of grief, including emotions, physical reactions, social relationships and role changes. It is designed for adults whose loss occurred between three and 13 months ago. Pre-registration is required. Facilitated by health care professionals from The James.

The OSU OB/GYN department is taking part in a clinical research trial to study the safety and effectiveness of an investigational oral contraceptive pill. To participate, you must be 16-50 years old, a heterosexual female, in good physical and mental health, and a non-smoker (if 35 or older). Qualified participants will receive study medication at no cost and compensation from time and travel up to $355.
