Charlene Gilbert, MFA, dean and director of The Ohio State University at Lima and professor in the Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, has accepted the position of dean of the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Toledo. She will continue in her role at the Lima campus through June.

‘Truth About Food’ focuses on science, journalism
The Food Innovation Center will host “The Truth About Food: The Role of Science in Public Affairs Journalism,” a program exploring the relationship between consumers, academics and journalists and the importance of effective science communications. The event, set for Monday (6/12) 1-4 p.m. in the Ohio Union, will feature a keynote address from Nina Teicholz, New York Times best-selling author of the The Big Fat Surprise, a book that challenged years of conventional wisdom on dietary fat. The free program is open to all, but advance registration is required.

International Congress on Pathogens seeks submissions
Ohio State’s Global One Health Initiative and global partners are leading the Fourth International Congress on Pathogens at the Human Animal Interface (ICOPHAI) in Doha, Qatar, Tuesday (11/7) to Thursday (11/9). With the theme "Environmental Challenges and Impact on Global Health," the congress aims to inspire interactions among scientists and with policymakers from various geographic regions and disciplines in the areas of health, agriculture and environment. Abstract submissions deadline is Friday (6/30).

Writing Center offers summer services
This summer, the Writing Center is open to serve both students and faculty. Summer services run through Sunday (7/30). The Writing Center will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday in 4120 Smith Lab. Friday through Sunday, the walk-in sites will be closed; however, they will offer a mixture of drop-off and live sessions via WCOnline. Faculty also may contact us if interested in having students use the center.

NSF CAREER Award advances quantum computing work
Yuan-Ming Lu, assistant professor of physics, studies properties of solid-state materials using quantum mechanics and statistical physics to better understand how electrons organize themselves in complicated materials. His new five-year, $477,294 National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award supports his research on developing new ways to detect and design topological orders, important in quantum computing.

Dining with diabetes classes
This cooking school and nutrition education program consists of four classes and is designed for people with diabetes and their family members or caregivers. The next series takes place on Thursdays 5:30-7:30 p.m. throughout June.

Weekly yoga class benefits Collegiate Recovery Community
All summer long, proceeds from Modo Yoga Columbus' Sunday 3:30 p.m. Karma Class will go to support the mission of the Student Life Collegiate Recovery Community, which supports students in or seeking recovery from alcohol and other drug addiction. The class is only $5 so grab a mat and some friends to do yoga and support a good cause.

Buckeye Country Superfest to impact West Stadium Lot
Buckeye Country Superfest will take place on Saturday (6/10) and Sunday (6/11) at Ohio Stadium. Parking spaces located in the West Stadium Lot, just south of the Huntington Club entrance, will be reserved for event equipment from 12:01 a.m. Friday (6/2) until Wednesday (6/14). As a reminder, “A” and “B” permit holders may park in “C” spaces at all times.

Herrick Drive Transit Hub expected to open
Prior to Cannon Drive construction in September, the Polo surface parking lot is expected to close Monday (9/4). The new Herrick Drive Transit Hub will open Tuesday (9/5). All project dates are weather permitting. Commuters maintain a menu of options including West Campus parking with access to the newly re-routed Med Center Express bus route. Beginning Tuesday (9/5), the MC Express will offer direct service from the Carmack Lots to the centrally located transit hub offering peak pick-up times of three minutes.
