Headline newsTWO FACULTY NAMED DISTINGUISHED UNIVERSITY PROFESSORSA pioneer in the field of mathematical biology and an internationally renowned expert in European and military history received Ohio State’s highest faculty honor at the Friday (6/1) meeting of the university’s Board of Trustees. The title of Distinguished University Professor was conferred by trustees on Avner Friedman, Distinguished Professor of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, and Geoffrey Parker, the Andreas Dorpalen Designated Professor in European History. Each will receive an additional annual budget of $10,000 from Academic Affairs for three years to support his academic work and will become members of the President's and Provost's Advisory Council. Read More > BOARD APPROVES REDUCTION IN HOURS REQUIRED TO GRADUATEIn a move that Provost Barbara Snyder called a university milestone, Ohio State's Board of Trustees on Friday (6/1) approved a reduction from 191 to 181 in the number of hours required for earning a bachelor's degree. The decision followed approval by the University Senate last month. The new credit hour requirements will begin this fall for incoming freshmen. The reformed undergraduate curriculum results from recommendations released in late 2005 after a 10-month study by Ohio State's Committee for the University-wide Review of Undergraduate Education. Center’s new, state-of-the-art Feedstock Processing Research
Facility will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday (6/5) in Wooster. Transportation
to the site will be available outside of Fisher Auditorium, 1680 Madison
Ave., starting at 2 p.m. The new facility will help develop and improve
the nutritional value of feeds for Ohio State’s internationally
recognized livestock and poultry research programs. It will also play
a key role in the processing of oils and proteins from crops for the
production of renewable specialty chemicals, polymers and materials.

Each recipient receives a $500 award courtesy of the Campus Campaign, Veterans Affairs fund. The award is open to student veterans enrolled in the GI Bill program at Ohio State, and applications are evaluated based on demonstrated involvement in veteran and community activities, proven academic accomplishment, and a recommendation from a faculty member. Block Memorial Tournament will be held on Monday (6/25) at the Tartan Fields Golf Club in Dublin, with a shotgun start at noon. Proceeds from the event benefit cancer research, patient care and education at the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute and the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center. Read More > FREE PROSTATE CANCER SCREENINGS OFFEREDThe James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute will offer free prostate cancer screenings from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday (6/15) in the first-floor clinic of OSU’s James Cancer Hospital. The screenings will include a digital rectal exam and a prostate-specific antigen blood test. To schedule an appointment, call The James Line at (800) 293-5066. Screenings are recommended for men who are 50 or older, 45 or older and African- American, and 40 or older with a family history of prostate cancer. |
