Headline newsOHIO STATE GRADUATES BUCK STATE TRENDSOhio State’s graduation rates and the quality of students receiving degrees have soared over the past five years. And a majority of the university’s grads - about 75 percent - are staying in Ohio to start their careers, bucking a statewide trend that shows the state is losing its young professionals. Several new collaborative programs, such as the Attract and Retain Talent Initiative and a fall public relations campaign will help make Columbus more attractive to young professionals and make them aware of career opportunities in the city. WORKSHOP MATERIALS FOR NSF EARLY CAREER AWARDS ONLINEFaculty applying for the July submission of the National Science Foundation Early Career Awards can view online a recent workshop conducted by Project GRO and the Office of Research Training, Education and Communication. The workshop provides an introduction to the RFP and includes a videoconference with NSF program director Sonia Esperança, and an overview of Ohio State resources available to assist in preparation of proposals. STONE LAB GUEST LECTURE SERIES AT LAKE ERIE CONTINUESOhio State’s Stone Lab on Lake Erie continues its annual summer Guest Lecture Series beginning at 7:45 p.m. Thursday (6/28). Chris Korleski, director, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, will present “Environmental Protection: Where Do You Fit In?" On Thursday (7/5), Larry Krissek, OSU School of Earth Sciences, will present “Scientific Drilling in Antarctica: Records of Climate Change.” Lectures will take place every Thursday evening throughout the summer at Stone Lab, and are free and open to the public. SIX OF 11 CONFERENCE TEAMS TO KICK OFF ON NETWORKFans of the Buckeyes, Wolverines, or any of the Big Ten rivals can tune in to the Big Ten Network on Saturday (9/1) to see their teams kick off their seasons, as conference and network officials recently announced the schedule for the network’s first three weeks. The lineup includes Youngstown State at Ohio State, set for noon Saturday (9/1). All games produced by the Big Ten Network will be available to cable and satellite operators nationwide as part of their agreements to carry the network. The Big Ten Network is a joint venture between subsidiaries of the Big Ten Conference and Fox Cable Networks. 2007 SUCCESS Recognition Awards to be presented at the annual event
scheduled for Thursday (9/6). The awards recognize individuals, work

the core values and quality philosophy adopted by the office. Outstanding
employees, including student staff, may be nominated in the areas of
leadership, work process improvement (Pioneer) and customer service.
