STUDY: WHITES UNDERESTIMATE COST OF BEING BLACK
Researchers did a series of studies in which a total of 958 whites of different ages and from different parts of the country were asked variations of the same question: “How much should you be
paid to continue to live the rest of your life as a black person?” Most replied they would need less than $10,000. The results suggest most white Americans don't truly comprehend the persisting
racial disparities in our country, said Philip Mazzocco, co-author of the study and assistant professor of psychology at Ohio

BREAKTHROUGHS IN MEDICINE SHOW TO AIR JUNE 30
Be sure to tune in to OSU Medical Center’s "Breakthroughs in Medicine" program on WBNS/10TV at 7 p.m. Saturday (6/30). The show will feature information on Women’s Health, including
the latest mammography guidelines and breast reconstruction options, and a new, minimally invasive treatment for heart rhythm problems. Learn some of the findings from the Women’s Health Initiative,
a national, 15-year research study. The show will air again at 11:30 a.m. Sunday (7/1). Read more >

NEW SEA GRANT CONSORIUM FORMED
The seven Sea Grant programs that serve the Great Lakes region have announced the formation of the Great Lakes Research and Outreach Consortium. Designed to foster collaboration on research, education,
and outreach projects, it could address regional problems such as water quality, invasive species and fisheries that often cross state boundaries. The formation of a consortium among the seven Sea Grant
programs will provide the means for any one of the seven programs to coordinate and develop projects for the entire region as well as accept and distribute funds to the other six programs. Read

HEALTH SYSTEM RATES FOR CLINICAL RESEARCH PROJECTS CHANGING
Beginning Sunday (7/1), the OSU Medical Center will be using new rates for research related hospital services. The Health System rates for clinical research projects are changing to provide a consistent
and simplified rate structure. Also starting Sunday (7/1), all requests for research rates involving hospital services can only be obtained by calling the Research Billing Helpline at 293-2103.
Individuals
with research projects that were contracted before July 1, should call the Research Billing Helpline for information. For cancer clinical trials facilitated through the Comprehensive Cancer Center,
the new research rates will apply, but all rate requests and study processing will continue to be coordinated by the OSU CCC Office of Contract Development and Coordination at 293-3156. View

WOSU WINS EMMY’S -- MORE ON BULLETIN BOARD
The National Academy of Arts and Sciences awarded WOSU Public Media with four Emmy’s at the annual Midwestern Annual Emmy Awards ceremony this month. Check out this and other awards relating
to Ohio State by viewing the awards topic on the onCampus Bulletin Board where faculty and staff can post or view a variety of opportunities. The bulletin board
is available to all OSU faculty and staff. All you need to do is register using your OSU Internet ID (name.#).
CAMPUS BASIC CABLE TV SUBSCRIPTION RATE TO INCREASE JULY 1
Effective Sunday (7/1), the monthly subscription rate for Ohio State's Basic Cable TV service will increase to $19.00 per month, per outlet. This is a $0.50 increase from the current subscription rate
of $18.50 per month. OIT, the campus cable TV provider, is implementing the rate increase to offset a continued rise in costs. For more details about this change, visit

QUEST FOR THE BEST – WOMEN AND EXERCISE
The Office of the CIO is offering a Quest for the Best workshop on Women and Exercise Monday, July 9 from noon - 1:00 p.m. in 580 Baker Systems. Participants will learn about success stories
of women who partake in various modes of physical activity as well as the fitness guidelines for healthy adults and how to creatively meet these requirements in daily activity. Registration
is required.
