OIT Walk-In Services Move to Central Classroom Building. On Friday (6/13), OIT is relocating walk-in customer services to 025 Central Classroom Building from 512 Baker Systems Engineering. The area is renamed the IT Service Desk. The consolidated location encompasses OIT's customer services and the Telecommunications and Networking cellular sales and support. CONTROLLING ASTHMA MAY IMPROVE SLEEP QUALITY

In an effort to improve the quality of sleep for patients with asthma, a recent study shows that a comprehensive sleep history of patients with poorly controlled asthma is key to capturing an accurate measurement of sleep quality and daytime sleepiness in symptomatic asthmatics, as well as the effects of improved asthma control on sleep quality. The study, co-authored by John Mastronarde, a pulmonologist and director of the asthma center at the OSU Medical Center, is published in the Journal of Asthma. More than 70 percent of asthmatics have difficulty sleeping at night and 65 percent of asthma deaths occur during sleep. Read more >

FULL-TIME STATUS FOR POST-CANDIDACY DOCTORAL STUDENTS REDUCED TO THREE CREDITS

Following recommendations of a task force charged with examining graduate tuition at Ohio State, Provost Joseph Alutto has approved reducing the definition of full-time status to three credit hours per quarter for all post-candidacy doctoral students. The change is effective Autumn Quarter 2008 and applies to current post-candidacy doctoral students. The new policy applies to post-candidacy doctoral students who are self-funded and those who are funded (graduate associates, fellows, or trainees). PROFESSOR, GRAD STUDENT PERFORM THEIR WRITING AT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE TODAY

Professor Joy Reilly (Theatre) and MFA candidate Johamy Morales are appearing with Howling at the Moon as headline entertainment for the fourth Annual Eden Alternative International Conference at 7 p.m. today (6/4) at the Hyatt-Regency in Columbus. Reilly is the artistic director of Howling at the Moon, a company of eight women artists over 60, who write and perform monologues of their life experience as Live Art readings. CONTINUOUS ENROLLMENT TO BE REQUIRED FOR POST-CANDIDACY DOCTORAL STUDENTS

Provost Joe Alutto has approved requiring continuous enrollment for graduate students who begin their graduate programs Autumn Quarter 2008 or after and who have achieved post-candidacy status. Continuous academic year enrollment is not required for current doctoral students, including those who are currently post-candidacy, who began their graduate programs prior to Autumn Quarter 2008. Summer quarter registration will be optional starting Summer Quarter 2009. TODAY: JESSICA HANZLIK IS SCIENCE CAFE COLUMBUS LECTURER

Science Cafe Columbus will host “Women in White Coats: Gender Equality in the Laboratory” with physics major Jessica Hanzlik, OSU's newest and first female Rhodes Scholar, at 6:30 p.m. today (6/4) at the South Campus Gateway Landmark Movie Theater. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is free. Hanzlik will present the results of her interviews with French male and female scientists (from all levels of higher education) on how their opinions about French culture and tradition correlate with general, gender-specific trends in science. DOGS AND DISASTERS: A TALE OF TWO CITIES JUNE 6

Cynthia Otto, internationally recognized expert in Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care will present “Dogs and Disasters: A Tale of Two Cities, a Veterinary First Responder's View of the 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina Disasters,” from 2-3 p.m. Friday (6/6) in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital Auditorium. The public is invited. Otto serves on the Veterinary Medical Assistance Team developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. DESIGN PRESENTS ANNUAL STUDENT EXHIBITION AT URBAN ARTS SPACE

The Department of Design's annual student exhibition is taking place through Friday (6/13) at the OSU Urban Arts Space in downtown Columbus. The exhibition will showcase the thesis projects of more than 50 graduating senior students in the areas of industrial, interior space and communication design. TAKE STAFF SURVEY BY THURSDAY FOR BEST CHANCE TO WIN GIFT CARD

Staff who complete the 2008 Culture Survey will be entered into weekly drawings to win $50 Barnes and Noble gift cards. The first of the three drawings will take place Friday (6/6). Those who have finished the survey by the end of Thursday (6/5) will be eligible for all three drawings. All university staff and a random sample of medical center staff were invited to take the survey, which asks staff opinions on leadership, work environment, job satisfaction, and more.
