Spotlight on ... Professional Golf Management Program
The newest major in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science has graduated its first group of students. Ben Schillig (spring 2008) is currently employed as the assistant golf pro at the Montesoro Golf and Social Club in California. Others are employed by the Breakers Palm Beach Ocean Course in Florida and Harbour Town Golf Links (Sea Pines Resort) in South Carolina. PGM requires a business minor and is geared toward golfers with a 10 or better handicap who wish to become general managers of a country club or golf resort. Students are required to join the OSU Golf Club, take a minimum 16 months of internship and become active members of the PGM student organization. Ohio State Board of Trustees to meet June 4-5
The Ohio State Board of Trustees and its committees will meet Thursday (6/4) and Friday (6/5) at the Longaberger Alumni House. The schedule includes meetings of the various committees on Thursday and the formal board meeting at 1 p.m. Friday. Read more: http://www.osu.edu/news/newsitem2447
Straub awarded Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship
Bryan Straub, an international studies and political science student, has been awarded a Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship. The fellowship pays tuition, room, board and other academic fees for the final two years of undergraduate and the first year of graduate school. Fellows commit to pursue a graduate degree in international studies at an approved institution and to serve for a minimum of four and a half years in the U.S. Foreign Service. Pickering fellows also participate in a summer institute program, one domestic internship, and one foreign internship during their undergraduate studies. Workshops offer help designing an online or hybrid course
Sign up for "Taking Your Course Online," a two-part series that explores strategies and campus resources for designing a hybrid or fully-online course. John Glenn School of Public Affairs In-Career MA info session
The John Glenn School of Public Affairs offers an In-Career Master of Arts in public policy and management. The program provides a flexible masters option for individuals with at least three years of significant post-baccalaureate administrative/analytical work experience. Courses are scheduled to accommodate working students with either full-time or part-time study. An information session will take place at noon Wednesday (6/17) in the Page Hall Policy Forum. Today: Sci fi drama culminates spring film series
The final film in the Spring 2009 Latin American Film Series, Latin American Cinema and the World: Beyond Cuaron, Del Toro, and Iñaruitti, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. today (6/3) in 180 Hagerty Hall. The sci-fi drama, Red Cockroaches, is set in a near-future New York City amid a world of floating cars and glowing red insects, and follows the lives of two twenty-somethings as they embark on a journey to get to the bottom of dark family secrets and corporate conspiracies. StoryTelling Festival and Global OSU Storybox Launch starts today
The Multicultural Center invites you to the StoryTelling Festival and Global OSU StoryBox Launch, "Ordinary People Telling Extraordinary Stories" from 4-7 p.m. today (6/3) and Thursday (6/4) in the Hale Cultural Center. Stories from the StoryBox drop boxes at OSU and in Columbus will come together and individuals or groups will take 5-10 minutes to share stories of transformation. June 4: Chinese-kite making demo with visiting artist Jingfei Li
The Institute for Chinese Studies will present a Chinese-kite making demonstration at noon Thursday (6/4) in the Hagerty Courtyard. Editor's note: An incorrect date for this event was previously submitted and published in the June 2 OSUToday. Jingfei Li, a visiting artist at the City of Upper Arlington and one of a handful of Dian-style kite makers, will discuss the process of creating Chinese Dian-style kites. Princeton professor to discuss Islamic, Jewish and Christian commonalities
The Middle East Studies Center will host Sabine Schmidtke from Princeton University’s Institute for Advanced Studies on Thursday (6/4), as she presents “Commonalities Amongst Muslims, Jews and Christians: Two Commentaries on Najm al-Din al-Katibi’s al-Risala al-Shamsiyya” at 5 p.m. in 306 Hagerty Hall. June 4: Spring Choral Concert at OSU Lima
The University Chorus will perform its annual Spring Choral Concert at 8 p.m. Thursday (6/4) in the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts in Reed Hall at the Ohio State Lima campus. The concert is free and open to the public. The choir is directed by Richard Mallonee, director of choral programs. Michael Benson, music lecturer, accompanies the chorus. Chadwick Arboretum hosts Rain Garden Workshop June 6
A Rain Garden Workshop is scheduled for 9 a.m.-noon Saturday (6/6) at the Ohio 4-H Center, 2201 Fred Taylor Drive. Learn how to capture and filter storm water runoff from impervious surfaces around your home such as rooftops and driveways and how this can benefit your home landscape and the water quality in your water shed.
