Graduating senior named 2009 Commencement Eve Ceremony speaker

Mark Torrez, a Strategic Communications major, is the student speaker for the Commencement Eve Ceremony to be held on the Oval at 9 p.m. Saturday (6/13). Graduating students are invited to congregate on the Main Oval for the ceremony, where graduates will receive a class pin available exclusively at the event. President Gee and Vice President for Student Life Javaune Gaston-Adams will speak. OSU alumna and broadcast journalist Erin Moriarty will represent the Alumni Association. The event will also include a candlelight rendition of Carmen Ohio and the opportunity to reflect on their journey at Ohio State. Read more: http://commencementweek.osu.edu

Today: Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition tour

Visit the OSU Urban Arts Space from noon-1 p.m. Friday (6/5) for an in-depth tour and discussion of the Department of Art Bachelor of Fine Arts Senior Projects Exhibition, which presents the work of 35 graduating art majors working in a wide range of media and approaches. CCTS unveils new Research Concierge Service

The Center for Clinical and Translational Science has established a new Research Concierge Service for the OSU clinical and translational researcher. It provides a variety of services such as helping investigators navigate the research infrastructure, matching requests for specialized expertise with faculty, making recommendations on finding needed services and resources, and facilitating access to CCTS resources. OSU South Centers to host Aquaculture Field Day June 13

Farmers, businesses, fish enthusiasts, or just the plain curious are invited to OSU South Centers Aquaculture Field Day from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday (6/13) to learn more about the aquaculture program, how its research benefits the industry, and gain knowledge about aquaculture species. Located off SR 32 in Pike County, the facility boasts the only fish genetics lab in the Midwest and is the cornerstone of research and education for Ohio's $6 million aquaculture industry. 2009 Summer Undergraduate Research Institute

Are you mentoring an undergraduate researcher this summer? Encourage student researchers to join the Summer Undergraduate Research Institute with activities open to all undergraduate students who will be at OSU during summer quarter. Student researchers are invited to a kickoff dinner, social and professional development activities throughout the summer quarter, and are given priority to present their summer research results at the Fall Undergraduate Research Day Poster Forum in October. Free prostate cancer screenings June 12

Ohio State’s James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute is offering free prostate cancer screenings from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday (6/12) in the hospital’s first floor clinic at 300 W. 10th Ave. Complimentary garage parking is provided. Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men, and screenings should be considered if you are age 50 or older. If you’re over 40 and at a higher risk for prostate cancer, you should consider getting screened prior to age 50. To schedule an appointment, call The James Line at (800) 293-5066.

Walk Now for Autism campus event opportunities available

Join the OSU Students walk team and raise money for autism awareness, education, and research at Ohio State, create your own walk team or volunteer at the second annual Autism Speaks Walk Now for Autism event, to be held Sunday (10/11) at the Schottenstein Center.
