Three faculty named Distinguished University Professors
An influential disability lawyer, a distinguished classics scholar, and a pioneering economic historian received Ohio State’s highest faculty honor at the university’s Board of Trustees’ meeting on Friday (6/5). The title of Distinguished University Professor was conferred by trustees on: Ruth Colker, holder of The Heck-Faust Memorial Chair in Constitutional Law in the Moritz College of Law; Fritz Graf, professor and chair of the Department of Greek and Latin, and Richard H. Steckel, professor of economics, history and anthropology. The recipients will each receive a one-time cash award of $30,000 from Academic Affairs to support their academic work and will become members of the President’s and Provost’s Advisory Council. Raimund Goerler recommended to serve as University Libraries interim director
Professor Raimund E. Goerler has been appointed to serve as interim director of University Libraries, effective Friday (6/5), until the appointment of a permanent director has been made. Joe Branin, recent director of University Libraries, decided to leave for Saudi Arabia much earlier than he had originally planned; and his last day at Ohio State was Friday (6/5). Branin's leadership and many accomplishments on behalf of University Libraries have been outstanding, and the university wishes him all the best in his new endeavors. Upcoming 'Best Companies to Work For' survey
Ohio State is being considered for inclusion on the 2010 FORTUNE 100 Best Companies to Work For® list, compiled by Great Place to Work® Institute. As part of the process, a survey will be distributed to a group of randomly selected faculty and staff to get your opinions about different aspects of working here. If you are one of the randomly selected faculty or staff, you are encouraged to complete the survey and be candid in your responses as no one from Ohio State will see your responses. University hours for summer 2009 begin June 15
University summer hours of 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. will be implemented effective Monday (6/15). Regular hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. will resume on Tuesday (9/8). Offices that remain open later hours to serve students or the public should stay open on an as needed basis. If the decision is to discontinue extended hours for Summer Quarter, official extended hours will resume Autumn Quarter. These offices are responsible for communicating extended hours and any schedule changes to their customers.
Some BuckID services not available June 11
BuckID is making the transition to the new Student Information System, and some functions will not be available during the conversion process. Beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday (6/11), and for the next 12 to 24 hours, these functions will not work: merchant card readers, copy and print readers, vending machines, laundry machines, and the BuckID web deposit system. BuckID cards will continue to work for door access and Campus Dining Services purchases (swipes and cash). All functions should be restored by 9 a.m. Friday (6/12). Eye on Alumni airs on Big Ten Network
A repeat episode of Eye on Alumni will air on the Big Ten Network at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday (6/9), 5 p.m. Thursday (6/11), and 8:30 a.m. Friday (6/12). This episode focuses on alumni who have "paid it forward" in their careers and their communities. Featured are Archie Griffin, CEO of the OSU Alumni Association; Stefanie Spielman, who has raised over $5 million dollars for breast cancer research; Tom Wheeler, former Cable Television Association president and a transition team leader for the Obama Campaign; and Keith Herron, president of Target Excellence, and an after-school program working with Title I students in the Sacramento, Calif. area. Rec Sports facilities free this week
Recreational Sports welcomes any OSU affiliate to take advantage of Free Week, today (6/8)-Sunday (6/14). During this week, any person with a valid university ID is invited to use the recreational facilities for free. Family members are welcome at the RPAC or ARC during observed Family Hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Stop by the RPAC Welcome Center or the ARC front desk with a valid university ID and register for Free Week.

June 9: OHRC hosts Sexual Harassment 101 workshop
Organization and Human Resource Consulting is offering a workshop, "Sexual Harassment 101," from 10-11:30 a.m. Tuesday (6/9) at Gateway, 1590 N. High St., Suite 430. Workshop participants will review: Definitions and problem behaviors, how to determine what behaviors may be harassment, what to do when harassment occurs, and responsibilities of instructors, supervisors, and leaders.
Free prostate cancer screenings June 12
Ohio State's James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute is
offering free prostate cancer screenings from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday
(6/12) in the hospital's first floor clinic at 300 W. 10th Ave.
Complimentary garage parking is provided. Prostate cancer is one of the
most common cancers in men, and screenings should be considered if you
are age 50 or older. If you're over 40 and at a higher risk for prostate
cancer, you should consider getting screened prior to age 50. To
