Construction update
Work on SR 315 to involve Ackerman Road
The following work on SR 315 is planned from 8 p.m.-5 a.m. today (6/25) and Friday (6/26): Ackerman Road will be reduced to one lane in both directions between Kenny Road and Olentangy River Road for bridge deck removal. Motorists should expect delays. If needed, the lane restrictions on Ackerman Road will remain in place until noon on Saturday (6/27) to complete the bridge work. Federal agency reports dispute PETA’s claims of abuse
Two federal agencies have given an Ohio State researcher a green light to continue his controversial heart research, effectively negating claims by animal rights groups that the studies were flawed. The federal Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare, a part of the National Institutes of Health, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture both investigated the long-running studies by researcher George Billman after complaints were filed against him by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA.) OLAW is the national agency charged with insuring that research using animals is performed in strict adherence to federal regulations designed to protect the animals. Ohio State, Pratt & Whitney form engineering partnership
Pratt & Whitney has established a strategic university partnership with Ohio State focused on world-class engineering research in the field of power transmission and gear technology for aviation engines. Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Corp. company, will work with the university on fundamental and applied research initiatives that support the design and development of more efficient and environmentally friendly gas turbine engines. OSU Find People: New look and functionality
OSU Find People features enhanced search functionality and a new design, including more flexibility in filtering search results, a Vcard and e-mail links. In addition, Find People includes an advanced search, which allows users to search by organization or job title. The advanced search requires OSU users to login with their OSU Internet username (lastname.#) and password. The current URL of http://www.osu.edu/findpeople.php will automatically redirect to the new URL of https://directory.osu.edu/findpeople.php.
Today only: OSU hosts Summer Dance Festival performance
Hosted by the Department of Dance, supported by a grant from the Greater Columbus Arts Council, and in exchange with Movement Research, Inc. of New York City, the Columbus Summer Dance Festival features a concert of professional choreography at 8 p.m. today (6/25) in Sullivant Hall Theatre. Tickets at the door: $15 general, $10 students and BuckID. Presenting solos are Movement Research Artist-in-Residence Yvonne Meier, former Cuban Ballet and Elisa Monte dancer Marden Ramos, and choreographer Meghan Durham, artistic director of Meghan Durham/Merge Dance. Stone Lab summer guest lecture series continues July 2
The Stone Laboratory 2009 Guest Lecture Series continues on Thursday (7/2) as Charles E. Herdendorf, OSU emeritus professor, presents "Science on a Deep-Ocean Shipwreck: Gold-Rush Treasures & Marine Sciences." Each Thursday evening lecture begins at 7:45 p.m., lasting until 9 p.m. Guests are invited to take a Lake Erie Water Taxi at 7:15 p.m. from the Boardwalk Restaurant dock to Gibraltar Island. The lectures will also be simulcast into 333C Kottman Hall on the Columbus campus, and podcasts will be available at http://stonelab.osu.edu/events/guest-lectures. Free technology workshops at the Digital Union
The Digital Union summer workshop series features hands-on introductory sessions in Adobe Flash, Apple iMovie, clickers (classroom response systems), web site development, web mashups, and more.
