Weiler to announce three significant planned gifts to Ohio State

During committee meetings of Ohio State's Board of Trustees today (6/17), Peter Weiler, senior vice president for Development and president of The Ohio State University Foundation, will announce three significant planned gifts to Ohio State. In FY 2010, which closes at the end of this month, estate gifts through May have increased 51 percent from FY 2009, or $22 million over the previous year for a total of $63 million in planned gifts to-date. Latest issue of onCampus looks at conversion to semesters

The Thursday (6/17) issue of onCampus is now available, so please check your OSU mailbox. Here's a preview from the online version:

  • Ohio State has used a quarter-based academic calendar since 1923, so considering the nearly 90 years it’s been ingrained into the fabric, it’s not a small feat that the conversion to semesters has gone as smoothly as it has. Thus far, efforts are on course for the Summer 2012 switch. Read more >

OSU professor named editor-in-chief of new physiology journal

George E. Billman, OSU professor of physiology and cell biology, has accepted the position as editor-in-chief for a new physiology Journal, Frontiers in Physiology. The journal is part of the Frontiers Journal Series, a novel and revolutionary academic publishing system. Launched in March 2010, the journal is now online and open for the submission of manuscripts. Read more:

North Tuttle construction project begins June 21

Beginning Monday (6/21), Tuttle Park Place between Neil Avenue and Lane Avenue will be under construction for roadway repairs. Two-way traffic will be maintained throughout the project. During the first phase of the project (approximately two weeks), access to the ROTC building parking lot will be restricted from Tuttle Park Place, access will be available from Lane Avenue. Construction is estimated to be complete by late July.

New location for Financial Training and Documentation offices

As of today (6/17), the offices of Financial Training and Documentation will be located at 120 Stores & Receiving Bldg, 2650 Kenny Road. Part of the Office of the Controller, Financial Training offers a series of instructor-led workshops on university fiscal procedures and policies and how best to work with the offices that have central financial responsibility. In addition, liaisons from areas including Purchasing, Payroll, Financial Services and the University Archivist make short presentations. Register online. Contact: Char Jessie at 292-3357

ProjectONE groundbreaking June 18

Join President Gee and Medical Center CEO Steven Gabbe on Friday (6/18) for the groundbreaking of the largest and most visible phase of Ohio State’s ProjectONE, future home of the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute and Critical Care Center. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. with a ProjectONE Expo from 2-4 p.m. Activities will occur behind Cramblett Medical Clinic, 456 W. 10th Ave. Special guest John Niederhuber, director of the National Cancer Institute will be a part of the program. June 19 Pelotonia Cycling Fair: Partnership to End Cancer

The Office of the Senior Vice President for Outreach & Engagement, in conjunction with the Office of Continuing Education and several trans-institutional partners, will host a Pelotonia Cycling Fair from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday (6/19) at the Fawcett Center. The fair will include bike check-ups, health clinics, Your Plan for Health screenings, and information needed to sign up and prepare for Pelotonia. There will be drawings for prizes, and the fair will serve as the launch and return point for a practice ride around Columbus. Read more:

June 19: Skate for Hope to benefit Spielman Fund

Olympian Johnny Weir will make a special guest appearance with former Olympians Emily Hughes, Rachael Flatt and Emily Samuelson and Evan Bates during Skate for Hope on Saturday (6/19) at Nationwide Arena. More than 100 figure skaters from central Ohio celebrate life, cancer survivors and the hope of a future free from breast cancer. June 18: High School Juried Exhibition reception at Urban Arts Space

Join the OSU Urban Arts Space in celebrating the work of high school artists in the 2010 High School Juried Exhibition from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday (6/18). Dining with Diabetes classes at University Hospital East

The OSU Medical Center and OSU Extension invite you to Dining with Diabetes, a nutrition education program designed for people with diabetes and their family members or caregivers, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday (7/15), (7/22) and (7/29) at University Hospital East Seasons Garden Café conference room. Sample healthy foods during cooking demonstrations and learn recipes, food preparation and measurement that will assist you at home. The cost is $10 per person.
