Headline newsCANCER PROGRAM AMONG SEVEN RANKED OSU SPECIALTIESThe OSU Medical Center has seven medical specialties named as among the best
in the country - including a top-15 ranking for the cancer program - in the
latest issue of U.S. News & World Report magazine. This marks the 15th
consecutive year the magazine has named the Medical Center one of “America’s
Best Hospitals.” In this year’s rankings, Ohio State is recognized
as a leader in cancer care, ear, nose & throat, gynecology, kidney disease,
orthopedics, respiratory disorders and rehabilitation. The James Cancer Hospital
and Solove Research Institute holds the top cancer ranking in Ohio. Rehabilitation
retained a top 10 spot as well. The rankings appear in the magazine’s

COMMITTEE TO REVIEW OSU BUDGET SYSTEMA Budget System Review Committee has been formed to assess how effectively
Ohio State’s budget system - now in place for five years - supports the
Academic Plan, aligns resources and commitments with college and unit activities,
and provides central funding. Based on its findings, the committee will recommend
possible enhancements or adjustments to the budget system by March 1, 2008.
Afterwards, feedback from the University Senate Fiscal Committee, Council of
Deans, and other groups and individuals will be considered as appropriate.
Co-conveners are Allan Silverman and William Baeslack, and members include:
Wiley Souba, Michael DeWees, Donna Hobart, Steve Gavazzi, Malcolm Chisholm,
Craig Volden, and Anita Hopper.
ANTI-AGING EXPERT OFFERS PUBLIC LECTURE ON EXTENDING LIFEAubrey de Grey, a renowned longevity scientist from Cambridge, England, will
deliver a free, public lecture, “Prospects for Extending Healthy Life
- A Lot” at 2 p.m. Friday (7/27) in 115 Biomedical Research Tower. Chair
and chief science officer of the Methuselah Foundation and editor-in-chief
of the academic journal Rejuvenation Research, de Grey has been interviewed
by various national media for his assertion that aging can be reversed and
that scientists should take a more proactive approach to extending the human
lifespan. The lecture is hosted by Pedram Ghafourifar, director of Basic Science
Research in Vascular Surgery and an investigator in the Davis Heart and Lung

Lecture Series beginning at 7:45 p.m. Thursday (7/26). Sean Logan, director,

More than 31,000 copies will be distributed to the university community through campus mail and at 35 distribution sites. NEW VANPOOLING OPTION AVAILABLE FOR OSU FACULTY AND STAFFOSU’s Department of Transportation and Parking Services has joined efforts
with the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission’s RideSolutions program
to provide faculty and staff with vanpooling services. As part of the service,
RideSolutions will reimburse vanpool commuters 90 percent of their fare should
they need to take a taxi in cases of emergency or unexpected overtime. For
