Barbara Ludwig has served Ohio State in various administrative capacities for 19 years, and in each of her roles, she’s been known for her collaborative skills, her quick grasp of situations and trends and for her ability to deal with complex administrative issues. As of Tuesday (7/1), she’ll be putting that extensive experience to use as interim director of the Office of Continuing Education, taking over for Tony Basil, who retired Monday (6/30) after 30 years with the university. Ludwig most recently was interim senior associate dean in the College of Education and Human Ecology. Continuing Education is central to President E. Gordon Gee’s commitment to communities, one of his six strategic goals. Read more >
OSU Extension is providing leadership to create a new resource tool enabling Ohio businesses to tap into the $38 billion Ohio tourism industry. The Ohio Tourism Toolbox, a Web-based site, is currently being developed to assist industry professionals and community leaders in improving economic development, enhancing industry connections and growing Ohio tourism economic impacts. The resource tool is the result of a partnership with OSU Extension, the Ohio Sea Grant College Program, the Ohio Tourism Division of the Department of Development and the Ohio Travel Association. The Columbus Fire Department (Station 7) will be using Brown Hall for training purposes from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday (7/8). Service vehicles will be parked behind Brown Hall, on the 18th Avenue side. Campus Police, Public Safety and Transportation and Parking have been notified of the training, which is a joint effort between OSU Fire Prevention and Emergency Services and the Columbus Fire Department. The College of Dentistry’s community outreach program, the Oral Health Improvement through Outreach (OHIO) Project, will team up with Ohio partners on Tuesday (7/8) to educate students about the growing need for community dental care in Ohio. In March 2007, the Ohio Department of Health reported that dental care is the number one unmet health care need for Ohio children. The goal of Community Dentistry Day is to engage dental students with partner organizations and to discuss new ways of addressing these unmet needs. Read more >
A reception will take place from 4-7 p.m. Thursday (7/10) at the OSU Urban Arts Space, 50 W. Town St. for two exhibitions showing this summer. Ways of Knowing Water, on display through Saturday (8/30), makes visible the place of water in Central Ohio, and evokes the presence and power of water. The College of Public Health's Office of Workforce Development is offering a new course, Get Thinking Leadership from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday (8/21) at The Blackwell Hotel and Conference Center. Register by Tuesday (7/15). The course includes an online self-assessment of your leadership behaviors, a report of results from your personalized assessment, a session covering The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership® and up to one hour of personalized coaching via phone after the workshop. onCampus’ annual resource Guide is the best way for advertisers to reach Ohio State faculty, staff and graduate students. The special 60-page edition of the faculty/staff newspaper is published Thursday (9/18), with circulation of 30,000. Twenty-three percent of OSU faculty/staff report keeping the Guide all year long as a resource, and 49 percent hang on to it through autumn quarter.
